For those of you who were here about this time a year ago, you'd remember I was pretty focused on a game idea i had, I believe there's still a thread in concept development somewhere. Of course it was one of those big epic rpgs everybody thinks up when they're young, and it was sci-fi (and not dystopian) so no rtp matched it. I decided to sprite... I became fed-up with the long time spriting took... (You guys on IRC at the time might remember the wierd glass ball shape I tried to do) I threw in the towel... I procrastinated...
Meh I'm back again, and though I dunno if my game idea will be able to go on in its current state without revisions, but I really want to get some spriting experience, and maybe put together some resources for you guys. Either way I've made a workshop (I'm still working with HK, cause RTP is way to small for me, and I'm scared to try something from scratch. Doesn't mean I'm overly satisfied with it though, the forehead is so FUCKING HUGE, the template's lightsource isn't from the top left [seems sorta pillow-shaded to me], the horizontal is an odd number of pixels [annoying for tilesets], and its sorta too big [I feel sorry for Kaizer people] Can't find anything better though, so HK it is, unless somebody can help me)
So, okay, enough of the big intro, here's what I'm working on without further adieu:
...Okay maybe some adieu, I decided to start with something I tried before, a pseudo-milatary exoskeleton based off an issue of popsci...
I really like the new pallete for the kevlar stuff, and its looking better in general, but I need some help. The helmet is too box for my taste (at least its not flat though) The stringy "artificial muscles" on the arms still don't look quite right too me And I really HATE my pallete for the fabric stuff covering the arms and the legs (I suck at palettes for things in general)
C&C appreciated, I'm thinking of doing some ground tiles soon (grass prolly, maybe asphalt, moving walkways)
Update: being bored I finished up the fora'd view, and I'm actually pretty satisfied with it :D but it doesn't match the HK template pallete at all :( anyway:
I got the basic shape down, but I'm not quite sure what more to add (pipes maybe, gears, some green colors dunno, gotta make it sleek) (also its sorta pillowshaded :X)

So I love your door. It kinda reminds me of this old school computer game I used to love which was called Journeyman Turbo. A certain door opened up just like that. I think if you want some hints try looking for videos on that http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNZ16bq2 ... re=related Here at 1:30
Btw I like the new version of your sprite, it's not so flat and has more depth, color and lights and darks. Keep up the spriting man, the comments will come in due time.
wow! you look at the older guy and the newest version and it's like night and day. you've obviously improved a bunch.
don't sweat not getting too many comments at first, the best thing you can do is just try to keep active with the pixel work that way you're not constantly bumping old stuff - you'll always have something new to show.
My biggest problem is I can't seem to be able to get a good palette for giving him a basketball jersey (purple one; think Lakers), or shorts; otherwise he's turning out fine. (Note the arms are supposed to look fake-ish their a sort of strength enhancement suit thing)
In other news, I took my earlier guy and made him into a minecraft skin!
