Yeah lockpicking was quite fun/easy, and it got even easier if you did the quest for the Skeleton Key (Unbreakable lockpick) though that did take of the "fun" part :d

I will admit that I didn't really pay attention to this game up until now. I'd played Oblivion a few months ago for an hour and couldn't really get into it. Honestly, I just really hate first-person view in games like this and it might have been the main reason why I didn't really like it.

But christ - this game looks fucking beautiful. Hot diggity damn. Having 3rd person view as an option is just icing on the cake for me.

That video looks really good, and almost makes me want to play it, but I really can't stand games with lots of aimless wandering around. ;( Really, really pretty though!

I was watching some interviews and what they are doing sounds super neat.

For example, most of the dragons that you fight around the world aren't scripted. Its all AI action. It seems like they are trying to do this with a lot of things and, from what it sounds like, players will experience different things. I also heard that each dungeon is handmade. Hopefully we wont get any more generic dungeons. And man, it does look really pretty.

E3 gameplay more or less sealed the deal for me; I'll be putting hours and hours into this, I'm sure.

You do know Oblivion had a third person view too, right?

Yeah the dragon AI sounds awesome they really are unpredictable, I've also heard that they'll randomly attack cities whether you are near them or not.

I'm going to put so many hours into this game, it's ridiculous. (300+ hours of gameplay apparently!!!)

Even if they randomly attack cities, they properly make the AI and the city impossible to be destroy, but only by making mods, leaving cities in despair.

yeah but i recall oblivion's third person looking as awkward as fallout's. it was an afterthought animation wise. Anyway i've always found elder scrolls to be very vast but lacking interesting characters and dynamic areas (i.e. progressive change you cause) leaving it feeling like you wander in empty realms stabbing things. Yes oblivion and morrowind were beautiful for there times and intricately detailed and was pumped full of lore and whatnot, but at the end of the day it's so lonely with the complete lack of compelling interactive characters to draw you into the land's plight. The last few installments of fallout seemed to demonstrate that bethesda is beginning to try and improve on this issue and skyrim on those limited promos seems to be a continuation of their growth on those immersion chops. I'm also glad they said they revamped the old leveling system and hope it resembles fallout more. Hopefully they will dump the attribute growth based on skill development it's really tedious to sit there and try and manage level gains on skills to have balanced attribute growth. Like stupidly tedious. Also glad they dumped the garbage skills like athletics.

agreed, dude. dragons are a staple of almost every fantasy game around these days. while i think they're cool and all, i believe the improvements on npcs will be a much better addition.

you obviously didnt watch the g4 hands-on demo. dragons are their own category because they have their own ai coding that makes them unlike pretty much anything else in the game.

Heh, until you realize that the dragon sees no difference between the guy he just threw and you :P (Other than that he hasn't thrown you. Yet.)

Yeah I get that, but then I'd be all wanting to get away or lure him to another town or something so he can raze hell
(oh hoh yeah dragon pun :smug: :thumb: )

Besides, I hate taking down cool looking things.

....Except in Castlevania, wherein all things must be taken down, and yet 99% are cool-looking things by default.

Still kind of bothers me that the character holds his sword/hand right in front of his face at all times ... I can dig WHY they do it that way, it allows you to see your shit in 1st person, but they take up a HUGE part of the screen and i hope they work in an auto-disarm when not fighting b/c i hate manually lowering the shit when i go into towns or if I just want to see the full screen. it would also be nice if your weapons/etc. were just budged somewhat more out of the field of view.

... also, crap. i always play these games as a ranger/assassin. it's way more fun for me. i hope they don't nerf bows too terribly much. i never play a mage or any mage/hybrid :/

Personally, I think pressing F to raise/lower weapons is fine. I would be pissed off if there was an auto disarm, to be honest. What if you're like an archer and you're trying to move slowly and then it disarms your bow because you haven't shot in a while.

But yeah, I was kidding, the dragon stuff looks totally bad ass. I always avoid interrupting bad ass things like that haha.

One thing that will be interesting is apparently you have a different key for each hand, so will that be like LMB for left hand and RMB for right hand? Would be funny because you'd be used to right click for using the sword in your right hand. If that's the case, I would likely flip it just so I can use what I am used to.

Also one of the coolest things in the videos to me is the landscape. Looks WAY more natural and believable than in the previous games. Especially in that shot where the dragon picks up the giant.

Well, when your bow is readied, you have to hold down a button/key to keep your aim, and crouch. So an optional auto-disarm wouldn't affect that anyway.

Oh, just thought of what I REALLY want. Non-telepathic guards.

I installed a mod on Oblv that made the guards non-telepathic, but I just remembered how fucking uncannily telepathic the guards were in vanilla Oblv and that made it stupid-annoying for thieving and secret night killins.

Honestly, just because a guy goes, "help! guard!" just before I kill his ass, while inside of their BASEMENT, doesn't mean that a guard 50 meters away and outside is going to be able to a.) hear him and b.) blink downstairs in half an instant to give me grief.

Well, I usually don't keep my arrows notched, especially since I don't usually like to start with the marksman skill. Maybe if they had autodisarm as an option, but if it's auto and you can't change it I will be mad. I greatly prefer to decide for myself.

The fact that the dragons have great AI makes the dragons special. As I said, any game can add in awesome scripted dragon events, but it takes good AI to make them special. I mean, the replay value of this game will be excellent just because of the unexpectedness of dragon encounters.

I'm surprised they added romances, but it could be fun if it's done well. (Apparently you can start a family, let them move in with you etc.)

Yeah I was hoping for it too, I just thought they'd never add it, I was so happy when I found out you could get a servant for your house in Skingrad in Oblivion. :P
I just hope your spouse will have some interesting dialogue or a few random quests, just a few things to keep the characters interesting.
And pets, I WANT A PET

Romance, that's interesting? I usually don't pursue romance in WRPGs, unless I can be with a girl... as a girl. I feel odd pursuing a dood when I have Star next to me... Plus, the guys are never cute in my opinion. o.o Of course, that can allllll change in this game!

Still looking forward to it!

Wow, romance too? Cool! This just keeps sounding better and better. It's already the most anticipated game I've ever anticipated :D

Are there really players who only play in 1st person or who only play in 3rd person? I just don't understand that. In a game like this (in fact, in most 3D games, if you ask me) you really do need both. 3rd person is better suited for character movement while 1st person is better suited for ranged combat and examination of the environment. Freely allowing the player to switch between views as needed is a hugely important feature.

What? I play in 1st person only because it's more immersive that way. Going to third person breaks the 4th wall. I don't know how you think 3rd person is better for movement. I can't stand, and generally won't play, any games where you have to move in 3rd person. In fact, the ONLY reason I ever use the 3rd person view is to see how my character looks.

Also there's some bad news. Armor is being simplified so that the top (IE, cuirass) is being merged with the bottom part (greaves) so you can't mix and match armor types and you have less slots for enchantment :[

I don't like armor, so I don't really care. I do care if I can wear heavy armor as a girl, and still keep my girlish figure. ^^

I hope they change that. I wanna look like a woman! :D

P.S. I love 3rd person view for staring my cute self and wondering around, and 1st person for fighting. But I hate first person, because games are scarier that way. D=
