Yeah, missed seeing that project of her's! :( But ooo no, wouldn't want to be a bumbling idiot; I don't even know how to use RPG Maker.

Congrats on the sales! Must've felt good. Ugh, can't stand most landlords. Reminds me a few months back when universities got vacated due to the Pandemic, and the customer, who was a landlord, was venting hard about how his student tenants didn't want to pay rent for a place they weren't able to use due to said pandemic. No discounts, nothing.

Feels good when you see people passing your memes around. Like, I'm almost famous.

It's just a dumb screenshot edit of The Cat from Infinity Train. Drawing attention to the fact that the voice actor is kate mulgrew, aka Captain Janeway.
I don't think I even save it after making it. The topic I posted it in probably didn't even last more than a few hours. That's the crazy thing. I thought Infinity Train was going to be this dumb miniseries that everyone would forget about a month later. So it's just surprising that someone appreciated it enough to save and upload to knowyourmeme. And now, Infinity Train is continuing with Book 3 on HBO with The Cat as a returning character. And now I see it in show discussions.

Octopus is the only Android gamepad-to-touch mapper I've been able to find which doesn't need to be rooted. It works pretty well, but has a few issues for my liking.

My laptop is in repairs now, so when I get that back, I might see if I can wrangle my own version in Android Studio or something. Will involve a lot of learning things, but appears to need 3 main elements: gamepad input detection, to be a transparent activity (sits on top) and triggers Android shell commands to emulate touch. From my research and experience of Octopus, this is how it does it.

So I was just thinking about creative pursuits I've had over the years, when I came to the realisation that I spent most my time in Game Maker making animations, and most my time in Flash making games...

I want to move out

But I would never be able to afford it

If I did move out, a three bedroom house with a nice garage would be only £100 more than a one bedroom shithole

So

So Monday 24th I finally got my laptop back from repair... But had to take it back within an hour. Turned out it had, what they described as a 'bruised screen'. So now just waiting on a supplier that isn't sucky, as that was the second screen they had.

My problem with RPGs / MMORPGs is more intense than ever. I keep making new characters, replacing the ones I had, often of the same class (but after playing a different class). It's not a grass-is-greener situation, but I've seemingly became very picky with what I want out of a character. And these petty deal breakers just bring my motivation to zero.

Wish there were more games that did the RuneScape thing where your account can do everything, with no pigeonholing...

You need to move to Egypt. I just moved my family out of the horrible apartment we were staying in, and now we're in a bright, airy 3-bedroom apartment. Floor-to-ceiling windows. American-style kitchen--that's what they call it here. An Egyptian kitchen is designed for the wife or servant to have a small cooking space hidden from the rest of the house. An American kitchen is open to the dining and living areas, separated by a bar. It's a beautiful apartment, in a nice area, next to an embassy, down the street from a shopping area. Rent, utilities, and building fees total about 9000 LE per month, which is about 570 USD or 430 GBP.

And I need to take a moment to thank God that we escaped from our old landlord and his slum of an apartment. He's taking our security deposit and trying to extort us to make us pay for a bunch of new furniture and he's threatening to send the police after us and he's even called our pastor to lie about us to him and to try to get him to pressure us and pass along his threats.

So I guess if you want to move to Egypt, I can assure you that rents are lower than in the UK, but I can't vouch for all the landlords.

I stubbed my little toe on a door and think I shattered the toe nail. The last time I did this I ripped the toenail off, but it only stung for a second.
But this time it hurt like hell and my scream could probably break glass. I mean, it was so high pitched I couldn't hear it at all.

Yay! Finally got my laptop back after all these months! Not going to lie; it feels weird... The HDD is a mess (I reformatted the OS on the SDD, and it seems to have forgotten about all the programs installed on my HD), so I got that to trawl through. I must've just left some things installed because they were massive to download... like ESO and WoW. (might've been classic?). I'll be looking to jump back into game dev, as I've been itching to do that for months! But first, I'm going to have a bit of fun with my laptop! :)

Unity is always a good bet! I've heard some good things about Godot too. Though these are all-in-one software... I'm fond of Construct 3, but that's hardly programming. Can be done in the browser though, and from essentially any mobile with the internet...

I've played with Construct 2 thanks to getting a free copy with the game jam thing we did here years ago... wonder whatever happened to Tuna, lol. I've considered Unity but it just feels a little overwhelming and maybe I should start smaller, even if the first thing I'd like to create is just a 2D platformer anyway, lol.

I totally get you, Unity is just so many panes and options. Reminds me a bit of Photoshop in that regard; battle of the menus!
Well if you want something stripped down (at least in terms of coding), maybe look into PICO-8? Here's a lil' YT video showing it in action.

I've actually looked at PICO-8 in the past, but it doesn't really look like the sort of thing I'd want to use to achieve what I want... I've got a sort of idea/vision in my head in how I want my game to look and feel, and honestly I think I'd be best just trying to come to terms with Unity if I want to get anywhere, but it's most likely gonna' take me a while unless I can find someone to help out lol.

Here's what I did. All you have to do is go back in time, be American, get a degree in an in-demand field, get a job with a signing bonus, and then buy a house in 2009 after the US housing market crashed, and you, like me, can own a 3-bedroom house in the DC suburbs, paying $292k for a house that had originally been listed for $540.

Oh, and I had a bit of an adventure on my way to home ownership. I had everything the bank wanted. But after 2008 when the mortgage default rate went over 25%, the bank was really nervous about new loans. So they double-checked everything the day before the signing. But my employer at the time (the CIA) doesn't do on-demand employment verification. There's a whole process if you want your employment verified before getting a loan. So the bank couldn't confirm that I still had a job and canceled my loan. I thought I was going to be homeless and lose my down payment. And at 28 years old--even with a steady job, stellar credit rating, and healthy down payment--I had to ask my dad to co-sign.

Home ownership is great. Jason, can you remind me where in the UK you live? What are the usual requirements for getting a loan in the UK? Do you have to have a minimum down payment of a certain amount, or show that your monthly payment is less than a certain percent of your income? Are there any programs in the UK to help first-time homebuyers or anything like that?

Ellie, what's your day job? What kind of house would you want to buy? Where would you be looking? Your post sounded more like a lament than a serious question. But still, I think it would be nice to imagine you in your own house.

That's so cheap. A four bedroom house here would be at least half a million or more

Congrats Fayte. Must feel good knowing that people are noticing your work.

Mega Flare, same here. A guy I used to work with had moved to DC from Georgia or someplace. He had a big 5-bedroom house in Georgia. Moving to DC meant a big pay raise, and at first he said he'd only do it if it were a net improvement in pay minus cost of living. So he figured that the cost of a 5-bedroom house in the DC area should be (cost of house in Georgia) x (new pay / old pay) and he got on Zillow to look for houses in that price range. Nothing came up and he figured the site must be having technical difficulties. Then he tried again the next day, still no results. And he expanded the search from 30 miles to 100 miles, then 200 miles, and way out by West Virginia he started seeing houses in his price range.

So I've been trying to figure out why I've not really done any game dev, even though I got my laptop now... And it suddenly hit me last night; I'm sick of working with pixels. I want my Flash back. But sadly you can't buy lifetime licences anymore, and the thing is some £230 a year for a yearly sub, or a more-expensive £30 for monthly. I can't comfortably afford either right now, but who knows; maybe that £30 a month could be the fire under my arse that I need to motivate me...
