I'm still deciding whether I want to use XP or VX. I really like how XP looks and the way it's run, but I know that VX has a "built in" world map system.

Is it possible to have a world map on XP, and if so is it hard to do?

It depends on what you mean when you say "world map". The system in VX is simply a normal map with different tiles, that are much smaller, as well as ones that are miniature towns, castles, and such. This can be replicated very easily in XP, using one of several custom tilesets floating around the net. On the other hand, if you wanted a world map more like an actual map, where you select where to go by town, or something like that, it would have to be scripted, even if you were using VX.

Alright. Was looking more along the lines of a map with a smaller tileset that you can walk around on.

Where could I find such a tileset for XP? Is it an easy find on the site, or not used too often?

EDIT: I just got done looking at a few demo's and such on YouTube and am curious.

What are the major Pros/Cons for XP and VX? Are there any MAJOR differences in them besides graphics style and that random dungeon generator ((which doesn't look that appealing))?

Try looking here for a good list of the differences between the programs. The biggest, and most notable difference is the mapping system. (VX completely redid it, and many people don't like how they did it)

No problem. If you need more, all you need to do is ask.

The best tileset you could possibly find is probably Inquisitor's which is on rpg palace.

Some sample images made using his tileset are:

Well if you want my opinion, RMXP would be better for making a world map. In my opinion, world maps are the bad
part about VX. Inq's tileset has a lot of detail in it, plus it looks better in combination with RMXP style characters than RMVX's tiles do with its characters.

Here's a question for you guys I've noticed between VX and XP.

VX with World Map's allows you to create Different Area's, which allow different Encounters then normal inside of those area's.

While XP does not.

Is there a way to mimic this in XP to have the same thing? Or no.

There are scripts around that allow the same effect.

Actually, you can just use terrain flags.

http://www.rmxpunlimited.net/rmxp/rmxp- ... encounters

Follow that tutorial, except add the terrain flag to a white tile, and then cover the areas you want to have battles with those flags.

Yeah, thanks. I actually had someone on MSN explain to me about the Terrain Flags and all that last night, so it's probably what I'll end up doing assuming it lets me accomplish what I want.
