Download: PNG - PDF

PNG is perfect for a browser, as one image. PDF is better for an e-reader or other device.

Interesting read. I particularly enjoyed the "Epic Game" article. I absolutely agree that the creation of the "Epic Game" is not the way to go. I know first hand how easily it leads to burnout. Especially since, when a game is that big, you are always so much better than you were when you started that you essentially by necessity have to remake the darn thing many times over.

I have one complaint. My username is "Erichermit", not "Ericthehermit" and the game is actually called "Enex" not "Enix." The name actually doesn't have anything to do with the famous-rpg company, just some weird gibberish I made as a kid. A most unfortunately coincidence for me, actually.

Do you post the eZine anywhere else? I'd say it's probably one of the more unique things to come out of this site. I think it should get more attention than it currently does.

Sorry, will fix asap! fixed :)

I don't currently post it elsewhere, not sure it's professional enough to to be honest.

Thanks :)

I will be making pdf versions of the latest few too as I have a better program now (I think); issue (12?) Looks great on kindle fire but the pngs have issues on various devices.

Issue 12's cover needs replacing too.

Would any of those prizes happen to be the humble bundle gift keys I tossed at Ven ages ago? I'm perfectly serious. It's three copies each of two of the best humble bundles to date.

Edit: nvm, found the thread. Reading now.
Edit 2: Well, that doesn't say either. I'm still curious, though.

So I hate to point this out but...

Erichermit, not Erichermet. X_X

In any case, I think they are pretty interesting reads. I'm sure there are many people who don't happen to frequent this site who would appreciate reading it.

I really liked this issue amy!
It's so well done. I loved the coverage on the competition, and the info on HB Archive.
The best bit was the interview with Sailerius, he's a developer I both respect and aspire to be like, so reading that interview really got me pumped!
I did notice a few spelling errors (I can point the out of you want) but on the whole? Best issue yet.

I was surprised that my topic was linked in the eZine :3

It's sad that Win 8 can't run properly RM95 games :/ I hope someone will programm something that can read RM95 Games for the nostalgy <3 (The game data isn't unreadable and we should just have to find data structures :3)

Sorry guys. I thought I'd been thorough with checking but I'll have to have another go. It's because my graphics program has no spell checker so I check then copy paste, but then end up rewriting and adding stuff. Will fix when I get home.

I usually don't take the time to read things like this, but you've done a very good job of getting everything together into an interesting package! I wasn't expecting to finish reading it when I first opened the link.

Also, the quick links are an AWESOME idea! It's very helpful. :)

Thanks, that's great to hear especially given how little time I had to do it. One thing I am worried about though is that with the majority of it written by me, with lots of informal "I" and references to what I happen to be working on, as someone has mentioned to me, it's in danger of turning into (or unintentionally reading as) "Amy's blog". I think I need to start writing from a wider perspective if others don't put anything - it's not a problem, I just need to learn to be more formal, less of the attempts at humour, and more general... if that makes sense.

Also I should.note that the adverts in this issue, such as for menagerie, were done in the sane vein as the spotlight, they weren't submitted or anything (just in case it seems like their authors are pushing them or something), I'd hate to make people look bad unintentionally (not that it would).

One final note - I tried remaking issue 7 and realised what a bad idea it was; some things should be left untouched. Instead I've reorganised the ezine page to show them all as one set, instead of broken up; this meant having to make new thumbnails so I took the opportunity to stick hbgames on them to keep it seem less but understand if you want it changed back. It basically now goes from newest to oldest rather than the other way around, and it looks.like a Big Thing...

Keeping in mind not to turn it into "Amy's Blog" is a good idea, but I think the idea is very solid and your execution of it seems to be good.

It's pretty obvious that this forum has become fairly inactive, especially on a "Game Making" front. It's unlikely that many new people interested in game design will join a forum that is mostly friends hanging out and chatting. I think that the eZine, however, is a pretty cool (and more importantly, unique) thing to come out of this website lately, which is why I think you should consider spreading it around a bit.

I'm personally not bothered by that. If anything, I prefer things to be written on a personal level instead of being "professional". I have no idea what an outsider's perspective would be for it, though!

If you wanted to try veering in a different direction, you could spotlight a game and try to write the eZine as one of the characters from that game. :3 I find stuff like that interesting to try to do, although depending on the person whose game it is, it might offend if you say the wrong thing. Or you could make an eZine "character" to play when writing them (which could lead into draw-what-you-think-they-would-look-like contests or something). Just tossing ideas around. :)
