You forgot to add that Construct has got plugins to, and that it is directx9 so everything runnes smoothly, oh and that you can make any kind of 2d game.

also igmaker only accepts bgm in .wav format (meaning filesize is going to be insane,) only allows three different sorts of projectiles (meaning you can't even really make a decent shmup or megaman knockoff) and the gui is worse than most other projects on the market

the .wav thing might change with later updates, though

also the package is 1.3 gigs because they included their awful sample games but

I use Toolkit every once in a while, it's not too bad.

But I think(at least in America), that XP is $60, and VX is $100. Is that correct?

I haven't even heard of them, therefore if anyone has anything to add to the list, mind writing the details as per the first post? :)

Game Maker does supply graphics. I don't know about the GM8 beta but thus far in every single version it has come with graphics, sounds, etc., to use. Also important to note is that it's free for the basic version which is actually really powerful on it's own- you only really need the pro version for particle effects, 3D, and networking.

what game maker does give you is pretty sparse and of low quality. perfect for just working out systems when you don't have time to come up with graphics or sounds yourself, but nothing comprehensive, and nothing that'll make it to the final product.

That's what construct already have, except networking plugin witch is currently in development. BTW. in Construct there is a map editor. You can turn on grid mode too, with snap to grid objects function. Check it out. BTW new version came out yesterday. Got few new features and many fixes.

I would like to add to the list.

The Official Hamster Republic Role-Playing Game Construction Engine
(OHRRPGCE for short.)
Website: http://hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce/ind ... _Page.html

Cost: Nothing. Freeware, open-source.
Scripting: "Plotscripts"
Pros: Active support by developers, ease of use, open-source.
Cons: Relatively limited in map number, global Boolean available, and customization options. No graphics included.
Mapping: One layer with square tiles you must draw yourself. Passability customizable in map editor tile-by-tile.

If I can find any others that are still available and can be installed on a Windows Vista system, I'll check them out and post about them here. I know there used to be a few more free ones, if I can ever remember their names.

would game engines fit this? i mean, some game engines are pretty much game makers but with more programming flexibility and (generally) simpler visual editors.
