Hey guys, I am new here.

Ages ago I worked with rpg maker and now I really want to finish a game. The thing is, I was wondering if you can sell your game as an indie game if made with rpg maker. I'm aware that you can't rip sprites, chipsets, music files, from other existing games. So I was wondering, and maybe I'm walking way ahead of things, if let's say people are interested in my game they could help me make custom made sprites, chipsets, music, name it?

And if the game really will be released what is expected from me to offer them in return?

PS Owe, and on a side note. I had quite a few forums where people were constantly trolling and behaving like children... Even my first post on quite a few forums was often replied to with trolling behavior, so I hope this time it's better;)

If you're selling a game that people have helped make, I'm pretty sure they'd expect you to offer payment in return, y'know, share the money you make... it's only fair.

you're going to find that most people like to get paid up front mainly because it's easy for a project to get canceled or for someone to steal their work.

Yeah I understand what you mean! On the other hand I can never know beforehand if the game would be a hit or miss and if it would be a hit and I get tons of money from it I would never be able to pay let's say X %(Where X is the percentage my helper and me agreed with) of the total earnings beforehand. But maybe I'm getting ahead of things. I should just make a template with things used from other sources, not for commercial use or whatsoever, but to just have something and I can by that time see if someone is willing to help me. And even then... I know a lot of people. Quite a few of them are good with music, maybe 2 or 3 could make sprites and other drawings on a computer, and maybe by that time I can learn it or maybe have learned it myself.

By the way, if you edit a sprite so that it look completely different. Let's say a dude with a blue tunic, a purple t-shirt, pale skin(No beard), green hair and a cap on his head will get the following rehash; ''He gets black hair, crimson red armor that looks completely different from his previous clothes, he has a black beard too now and very tanned skin. His eye color is different and even the size and position of the eye is different, and also the cap on his head is completely gone.''

Will that still be seen as plagiarism or could I now use the sprite as one of my own?

Same goes with chipsets, facesets etc etc???

So long as you legally purchased the RPG Maker software, you have a commercial license to any of the resources that come packaged with it. This includes altered versions of said resources made by you. If you took a sprite made by, say, bacon, and recolored it, you'd be plagiarizing his work.

Now, as for collaborating with others on a commercial project. Unless the people you work with are deeply involved with multiple aspects of the game's design, you'll probably be paying for a commission up front. Contracts are risky business and, to be honest, no one is going to expect to get their effort's worth it of the sales for an RMXP game.

Standard rates are different for a lot of people...based on talent, quality/quanity etc. Most artists usually have flat rate fees for sprite sheets, or hourly rates for the same product. You just have to ask the artist.
