Greetings everyone! Eidolion here, with a short idea I've been working on today that I'd like to throw out here and see if there's any point to me continue with it, or all-in-all a bad idea. For those who have followed me (Probably none) you would have seen my failed attempt at a Final Fantasy Fangame, well for those who care it is still being rewritten, and reworked every once in awhile, but at this time I do not have the time required to focus on such a heavy project, and so I started thinking of this project earlier today.
The idea behind this is I want to tell a story, about four important characters, three which tell the story, and the fourth, who is the main character is you. You decide if you're Male or Female, and what Class you play as, and the choices throughout the game which shape the city and area around it. Your companions are aligned a side, they're Lawful, Neutral, and Chaotic. I call them that, instead of Good or Bad, because Chaotic is still capable of good, and Lawful is still capable of evil, it's left to the character to decide. And when it comes to choices, I mean things along the lines of help this civilian, or that civilian, but you can't help both, and later it could possibly hurt you. Help this man save his daughter from bandits, or help this group steal riches from the "greedy" people to help the poor. Things along those lines.
I also want to use a different leveling system, the Max Level is 20, but realistically, you wont see it if I have anything to do with it, just like there are no Random-Encounters, you get experience from fights, but it takes a lot to level up. When you do level up you're given 5(for example) points that you can put into your Stats, Strength, Stamina, Agility and Magic. Strength increases the Damage you do with Normal Attacks, Stamina increases the health you have while decreasing the damage you take, Agility allows you to react quicker, and Magic increases Mage Characters Mana while also increasing there Magic Damage. But don't worry, you'll generally get 5 free points allocated that outline the classes strengths, so you can make them stronger, or balance there weaknesses. Because of this leveling system, most of your Stats will come from the Gear you find, as after the beginning, almost all of it will impact your stats in some way. I also want an Aggro System and Taunts in the game so you can have a "Tankier" Character take the beating, and the Warrior/Rogue classes to have 100Stamina and you regain say, 10 Stamina every turn for them, while Mages have more Mana and have to use Spells and Potions to recover it.
World Design and Basic Story
So far, I imagine this game taking place in a country stuck in a war. There borders are on a constant state of alert, as the enemy may arrive at any time, even though battle hasn't happened in almost a year for some unknown reason across the border. You play as a young traveler with Amnesia, you awake in a Medical Ward in the Capital City of this country, and this is where your journey begins. You barely remember your own name, you don't know where you've come from, why you're here, or why you arrived in the condition you did. You have nothing except for Nightmares about a man clad in black armor.
As you explore the city and the lands surrounding it, you'll come to learn more about the nation and the war it's involved in, I plan for you to either come to love this country that has taken care of you, or hate it for all of it's mistakes. In the end you will be the deciding factor on what happens to the city. Will you save it from this war? Or watch it burn? Will you unite the people, or wreak havoc in the streets. I want this game to be based around decisions, not all of them important, but I want to catch the feeling of importance. I'm looking at a 8 hour long game here if you played the full story. Nothing massive, but still fun.
The general feel of the world I'm looking towards is a Fantasy-Medieval Era Game, there will be Knights, Castles, Magic and Dragons. The people will for the most part speak English, with a few people having a slang used by the Commoners. A large portion of the story will be about Demons, and there Unholy Pacts with Weak Minded Humans.
The Story Behind The "Unnamed" Country
This country was settled around 200 years ago, the exact year varies depending on the source, but they only differ by 10 years at most. It all started when the Human Lord, Ryain and his small fleet of soldiers and there families arrived on the coast. They came ashore and found that this land was filled with beauty, and many resources were untouched and ripe for the taking. The only problem that the Humans saw at this time were the current residents, the area was littered with small villages of Elves. At first the Elves tried to make peace with there new neighbors offering trade, and assistance, but Lord Ryain was a racist, and stubborn man, in his homelands Elves were nothing less then slaves, and that was how he saw them. He took up arms and slaughtered every Elf he could, causing the few survivors to feel the country and hide in the neighboring lands which was separated by a thick mountain range and protected by a Dwarven Fortress. Ryain took his victory once the Dwarves sealed off the entrance into there kingdom, and his people immediately began settling and building towns. Overtime, more people came from his lands, and eventually nearly 100% of the civilization of the population in this new Country was human, leaving only monsters and elven rebels who come from over the mountains to distract them.
Magic, And How It's Feared, Yet Love
Magic is fairly common in this world, roughly one in every four people have the ability to learn to wield magic, but most of them don't react to this gift, feeling its a curse, or that it could consume them. Many people in the world think that Magic was discovered by people who made a pact with demons long ago, but those who look into it, and did there research know that Magic was actually passed on to Humans from the Elves when they first made contact many generations ago. Elves gained there magic abilities by making deals with Spirits to save there land from being consumed by Demons, and Magic was the gift they were given to combat them. But some of the weaker humans see Spirits as just another face of Demons. Because of this, everyone has a different opinion on magic, but the general consensus is "Magic is dangerous, stay away from it".
Magic has many different faces, some use it to burn there enemies, or throw balls of lightning at them. Others use there magical abilities to heal the wounded, and protect the weak. Some of the more powerful magic wielders have learned to bend the very soul of a being and use it to inflict damage from the inside. When broken down though, there are 3 Primary Classes of Magic, and they are Creation, Destruction and Spiritual.
Creation is simple as that, Mages use this magic to create. It's most commonly used to heal wounds, and sickness as well as create magical enchants on weapons for added damage, or construct a barrier around weaker allies to protect them from devastating attacks.
If a Mage is known for being violent, chances are they have a natural gift with Destruction. With this class of magic, Mages are known to hurl fireballs out of there hands, shoot chain lightning at there enemies, and even impale the unsuspecting with a large shard of ice. This class is what has made Magic a fearful tool though, and is used in every war.
It is rare that a Mage has the power to wield Spiritual Magic, and for many reasons. This class of magic is particularly powerful if used correctly, but also drains from the mage taking much more time and energy then the other Classes. With these spells, a Mage is able to poison the mind of an enemy, restrict them from casting spells or even use basic attacks. The more powerful mages are even able to rip the very soul out of an enemy, causing them to drop dead.
Silent Protagonist "The Traveler"
The Main Character, either Male or Female, Warrior, Mage or Rogue. It's your choice. Ideally I plan on having small alterations depending on if you're a Male or Female, and depending on your class. For example, you come across a Brute General, he's cocky, and mocks you for being a Female Warrior, but respects you if you're male, etc, etc. The general story behind this character is you wake up in a town, you have no idea where you are, and you seem to have a case of Amnesia. Your story begins as you're told how you came to the City, in what appeared to be glorious armor at one time, but was smashed to pieces and barely hanging off you, your body was beaten and bloodied, and you had been out for weeks and barely kept alive by there healers. As you come to, you decide to find out what happened to you, with nothing to guide but the face of a man clad in black armor and a great army.
A young Mage from the city. She's a little naive, but has a great power hidden inside of her that her Mentors are trying to pull out so she can reach her full potential as a Mage, she's also one of the Healers that kept you alive while you laid unconscious. She joins you early on in the story, and initially leans more towards being a Defensive Mage, and assists you in remembering how to fight, and fills you in on the state of there country.
An unlucky, but serious soldier in the City. He is introduced to you by Cecille, and notices from how you carry your weapon that you have seen many battles. Your unknown history peaks his interest, and he decides that if he can be of service, he will help you, and even offers to bring you to meet with his superiors to see if they know you from any Tournaments from the past. When he joins he initially begins as a One-Handed Warrior.
A mysterious man from a land across the sea. He watches you from afar, and knows your name before you meet him. He claims to know much about you, and he was sent to watch over you, you're too think of him as a Guardian Angel, who kills from the shadows. He also has a horrible sense of humor and prefers to point out others flaws for his amusement. He joins you when he sees fit, and initially begins as a Long-Ranged Rogue.
The One-Dressed In Dark Armor
The Dark Knight is a reoccurring image in The Travelers dreams. It is clear that he holds something important for The Traveler, but where he came from and what his motifs now aren't known. There are many legends about him dating back almost a hundred years, some people see him as an Angel of Mercy, others as an Angel of Death.
The story goes that he was once a Paladin in service to the King, he was said to have been the most loyal soldier in the Kings Army, to the point that when the Military tried to assassinate the king, he himself held them off and defeated them with a combination of magic and swordplay. After that he was raised to the Rank of General, and easily rebuilt the kingdoms military might. When there was rumors of a Civil War erupting in the country, the Paladin himself went and ended the revolt before it could even begin, indirectly saving the thousands of lives that would have been lost otherwise. When the Elves first attacked the kingdom in an effort to regain there lost home, the Paladin pleaded with the king to defend the country sides instead of just focusing on the castle itself. The king refused his request and had him lashed and imprisoned for speaking against his king. When he was freed weeks later, he learned that his family had fallen in the first attack, and that the country was badly beaten, but managed to make the Elves flee back over the mountains.
In a fit of rage he recruited his closest swordsmen and began a civil war inside the castle, he aimed to strike down the one man that took everything away from him, and the one man he had served since he was a young man. His band of warriors was slowly defeated, and the Paladin himself was struck down by the king himself. As his life flashed before his eyes, a whisper came to him from beneath the ground, the voice offered him Vengeance and Power, in return of a Vessel. The Paladin opened his heart to the voice and accepted its offer without hesitation. The voice pulled itself from the pits of hell, and attached itself to the Paladins soul. His wounds healed, and with a vicious blow he severed the kings life, and burned the castle to the ground, killing the hundreds of innocents that remained inside. He was then said to have fled towards the mountains where a castle built by demons awaited him, from there he looked down on the country that he had once served, and no hated with every bit of humanity he could hold onto.
Note: The Dark Knight is the main antagonist of the game, I plan on trying to make him a villain that you either come to pity and feel sorry for, or you either hate him and find him rotten to the core.
The Warrior is your "Grr! I'mma eat your face!" Class, they're capable of using a Sword+Shield (Which is shown always as a One-Handed Weapon), or Two-Handed Weapons in battle. While they level up they can unlock HP or Strength as there Passive Bonuses as well as specializing in One-Handed or Two-Handed combat. Once they reach Lv.12 they can branch into a Swordsman, or a Champion. The Swordsman focuses more on heavy damage, to take out enemies, while the Champion can activate a Presence (One at a time) to assist there allies, while also taking Aggro off everyone else.
The Rogue is capable of lowering there Aggro, as well as using Daggers (Which is shown as a Dual-Wield Weapon) or a Long-Ranged Bow. While they level up, they can unlock Agility Bonuses, or increase there natural energy pool, as well as specializing in Dual-Wield combat and Long-Ranged combat. Once they reach Lv.12 they can branch into an Assassin or a Scout. The Assassin is capable of slowly bleeding an enemy dry with quick, precise attacks, while the Scout weakens an enemy and then hits them with a powerful finisher.
The Mage class is capable of using Staff Weapons, and that's it. While they level up they can unlock Magic Bonuses, or Increased Mana Bonuses, they're also able to Specialize in Defensive Spells (Cure, Protect, Haste, etc) or Offensive Spells (Fire, Thunder, Doom). Once they reach Lv.12 they're able to branch into a Shield Mage or a Combat Mage. The Shield Mage is useful for the Advanced Healing spells, and also has the only Revive Spell, saving you money on Revival Items. The Combat Mage is the stepping stone of Destruction, unlocking more powerful spells meant to reduce enemies to ash.

What I Want
What I want is simple, I want your opinion on this idea, if you think it's a good idea, or not.
I'll also need help looking for Scripts in the near future, and I'll update with that information later. For now, I just want feedback.
And that's all I can think of for now, I thank you for taking the time to read through this, and look forward to hearing your opinions.
