Hi guys! This is my first post here. :smile:

Me and my team are currently in progress of making Cold Infinity, an RPG that's a little different from others, but has many similarities among a few other RPGS. My team, for now, is just me and my coder. :P

But! This post isn't about my team and the blatant vacancies *cough*mappersandartistsmaybe*cough* we have. :biggrin: It's about the game! So!

(recruitment thread is here: viewtopic.php?p=883382#p883382)

Here are some details about the plot. The idea is still very new, so an actual summary hasn't been cranked out yet. n.n;

The Main Idea

There's a king. One of his sons betrays him and is banished to a far off place. He seeks revenge after years of preparing an army. The player can choose either to be ‘good’ and side with the King, or be ‘bad’ and side with the exiled prince.

The Main Characters

Estelle is one of the King’s knights who was also the Prince’s bodyguard. The rest, she meets with along the way of her chosen path.

Louella is an elf who was out-casted from her clan because she had murdered the Chief’s son. She plays as the main antagonist for a while.

Darrell is a young Lord whose father exiled from the land for “being an embarrassment to the family name”. He was given a fairly large sum of money of which he quickly spent in his dilly-dallying. He meets the gang as a thief.

Trent is a former executioner who quit the job when the work got to be too much for him. He spends his days in the bar, trying to forget his time working the job. The party encounters him as a witness for where the prince was last seen. He joins the group when they give him a reason to keep going.

Features

*~ 15+ towns/villages ~*

*~ 5 tiered classes and 1 all-rounder class ~*

*~ Dynamic Battle System (1) ~*

(1) - Dynamic Battle System: Players gets to choose at the settings screen at the very start of a new game whether to battle in a JRPG-styled turnbased system or something more akin to the 'Tales of' series.

To provide a little preview, here's the concept art for Estelle and Louella! I drew them, but the concept may change. As may the art itself. `-`;

Hey, welcome to HBGames! Your ideas sound pretty decent, but with some feedback/advice, could be better fleshed out.

I wanted to start with a word of caution, in case this is your first project: don't be too ambitious with it! It's good to give the player some choices to make, but make sure it's nothing too burdensome to develop. I'm not sure how your idea of choosing the "good side" (king) vs. "bad side" (prince) will play out, but keep in mind even western RPGs have a LOT of areas and scenes in common, even if you choose different storylines to start out. In addition, fine-tuning both a jRPG TBS and a "Tales of" battle system sounds like a lot of work. I'm not trying to dissuade you, just offer some friendly advice: too many RM games start off great, but die due to overambitious goals and lack of motivation. So make sure you're making one game, not two!

That said, I'm liking the basic premise. It seems like a lot of the characters have something in common: exiled from their kingdom or clan. I think it'd be cool if you could work that into the plot; it would make character development a lot more interesting between the prince and Louella (antagonist). The rest is a bit vague, and somewhat cliche, but no worries, all RPGs are bound to start similar. Just add some creative or defining element to each character and you'll be grand.

Good luck with your project!

Thanks for your feedback!

Well, actually it branches out a bit mroe cause no one is ever truly bad or good! The choices and actions of the players will determine one of three endings in each line; "good", "neautral" or "bad". I won't go into further detail cause that might make it a spoiler :biggrin:

Louella (antagonist)

Louella isn't the antagonist... It's actually Estelle. But there is a little time you get to play as her because her story needs some playing out to explain.

Me and my coder are certainly ambitious. My coder's in the midst of making an engine especially for this cause he refuses to work with anything else. :P

EDIT:

Okay, guys! I need your help on decided one themed town I've been thinking of adding. To Steampunk or not to Steampunk?
