Vxace no longer has autotile expansion, the feature was removed. Is there a way to fix this?

The dialog box does exist... you can find it via resource hacker. I am wondering if there is, well, a less orthodox way of making it work, a la the 4 line text box patch etc...

If not, has anybody found any other workarounds for using all minitiles that make up an autotile?

Nope. But imo the only thing the expansion was good for placing 2 autotiles down next to each other but behave like they were alone. Forcing any other combination looked unnatural and choppy.
You could have a duplicate autotiles which will act independently. But it's probably just one tile you're after so you could import it as an event graphic or add it to a tileset.

The main thing is carpets - the carpet autotiles are useless unless just drawing rugs as you can't have them go underneath the bottom wall.

There's just shift-click that places it as an ordinary tile. No edges.

Here's a link about shift click mapping, it may be handy for you... he only uses it for cliffs, but yeah, I use shift clicking for interiors all the time, especially for carpets and such:

Thanks, that's really useful. I didn't realise shift click could get the exact part of an autotile.

Maybe in VX Ace 2 they'll fix the actual autotile expansion.

Or better yet they'll add layers for mapping, so you could add the bottom wall of the house on the next layer without it fucking everything up, lol.

Maps without using the editor or use a script to set tiles in the inferior mapping layer :d (There is 3 layers of mapping but we can't choose them).

I think I understand it now. It's just a little awkward, as there are so many combinations to try and create in a test map to then copy across to get the right tile. With autotile expansion it's just there like an extra tileset. Ah well.

I have a map now which just had autotiles drawn on it, so I have a bank of tiles to copy from.
