Double Crossed
RadethDart's Construct Contest Entry (Click Logo to Play)

Game Overview
You play an "innocent" male who is trying to put his accomplice behind bars. There are three different difficulties which are: Petty Crime, Felon, and Death Penalty. Each of the difficulties take place on 4 different levels (possibly 3 since I am limited to 100 events) where you go against an interrogation officer to convince him that you didn't have anything to do with the crimes. What is the underlying objective? Play your way through the Prisoner's Dilemma scheme all the way to safety! You may end up with a couple years in jail or a slap on the wrist, but that is better than death, right?

Characters
  • Jimbo (Accomplice)
  • Danny (Player)

Design
I am not much of an artist, but I plan on drawing my own characters and scenes on the computer to warm up my abilities on the tablet. I was thinking more of a sketch look with shades of gray as the color would give this a prisoner feeling to it!

Haha, thanks! And for once in my time of creation, I actually have a plan on how I am going to complete this each day in advance! I hope that competition is as good as it looks!

I love your Title screen animation. I thought you made that with PowerPoint :haha:
Really nice. Looking forward to see the final result.

You got the prisoner's dilemma wrong. The dilemma has you given the offer to rat out your partner so you get a lesser sentence. If neither of you rats, you get to leave. If you rat out your partner, he gets the full sentence, you get a reduced one. If you both rat out each other, you both get the reduced sentence.

*Variables are subject to change. ;) I know what the real thing is, but I am trying to make different rules, lol. It is the prisoner's dilemma concept.

However with the new rules, wouldn't the incentives be just for everyone to plead innocent? There would be no reason to plead guilty at all :/ because on average if you plead guilty you'll be spending 7.5 years in jail, but if you plead innocence, only 0.5 years in jail. Everyone would just go innocent. 'The prisoners dilemma' thus gets reduced to 'the prisoners'. The reason why its a prisoners dilemma with the original rules is because if they could somehow synchronize their answer then they would achieve the lest amount of jail time, but because they cant and are working from averages, they will always both plead guilty.

Ah...then it shall be the original rules. :) That solves that problem! I was going to build the computer AI based on the crime committed as well, so the different years have the potential to increase/decrease depending on difficulty. Thank you guys for the reply and help on this! I guess that makes a bit more sense when put that way, lol.

@Tuna, why thank you very much! Yeah, since I couldn't draw my characters and all that in time, I decided I would stick with graphic design. It is a shame that I didn't have time to work on drawing my characters, but I want to do that eventually.

@valkryiegames, I'm glad you didn't take it in a bad way, lol. I can totally admit that you guys have my back on this game. :) Oh, and your game doesn't look too bad either...especially with your resourcing with those slick graphics! I wanted to use those graphics for a game before, but couldn't think of an interesting game with them. :)

Hehe sure, we're all here to help each other out :) More fun that way too. Thanks! I've been thinking of making a game with those graphics for a while too and couldn't think of one. Then this contest came along and I finally found an opportunity to use them, so that was lucky for me :)

I REALLY like the concept for this one. I had been hoping someone would make a semi-puzzler like this.

I'm also a big fan of your modifying the HTML page your game is on. I'm actually going to add that to the HYPE! recommendations list -- good work!

Haha, thanks V! Yeah, I have advertisement in other places, so if they don't see it here, then they can see rolling updates as I am working on them. I was actually going to host my own files, but that would be cheating to others. ;)

EDIT:

I will try and get some more updates for everyone on this game tonight. Hectic week/start for me right now. :3 Graphics are coming along nicely though.
