Boing is a 2D Arcade puzzle game. This is a one-button game that requires planning and strategy, with ultra simple controls. Help the main character (boing?) jump over dangerous obstacles and collect all coins to complete a level. * The game will be available in HTML5 and Android.
Features - 7 levels - Time Run & Free Play - 2 select-able characters - 1 Button / Touch Controls - Online Highscore Tables
Not in this release yet: - Collect shiny gems for extra points and unlock a special level/skins on collecting all gems. - Buff-system (temporary effects such as higher jumps, speed increase, double jump,...) - More levels - Individual level highscores - Facebook Integration - ,...
* I'm trying to keep into account that my game is playable on all devices and platforms, so i had to keep the amount of objects, effects and particles low.
Next updates will happen after the contest winners are known.

More info about me & my project: Hey guys, here I am joining my first game creation contest ever. Its a platform puzzle game, where you control the character only by jumping.
I have been experimenting with the Construct 2 engine for a while now so most things should be added quiete fast. I hope to complete 10 levels and a highscore board, although I'm worried about Construct's Free version 100 event limit.

Very cute. Runs really smooth even on my trashy work computer.
I personally don't really feel kin on the auto movement and only able to control jumping, but I can see that being part of the challenge - having to jump at the right moment. I just get annoyed whenever I miss a jump XD
Can't comment on sound if there's any, I'm at work and can't make it obvious that I'm playing a game >.>
I like your game wishy. Building it this way with a jump only action of game play is a brilliant idea on your part especially for mobile devises. Most mobile platform games Iv played just have bad movement controls but not yours. Nice job keep it up :D

I like the concept, but I feel like the mazes are not well made. For instance, in level three I just kept walking back and forth, at the beginning because I wasn't timing right the jump, and each time it was like 5 seconds I had to stand there waiting.
By the way, I played it on my Kindle Fire (which runs Android), and it seems okay, but I noticed the frame rate is kind of low, 13-14 FPS. Is this on purpose?
Also, how the heck can you publish Construct 2 games on Android? Can you sell them on the market?

I'll be adding sounds and remake the levels tonight.
I'm currently on 50 events, so still enough to hit the Event limit.
@Juan, The framerate on android is pretty low at the moment, 15 fps should be just playable, but i'm getting a tad less. These seem to be the limitations for now in C2, but I know Ashley is working on better support for mobile devices.
That's why this game has so few effects and I try to keep the amount of objects as low as possible.
You are able to export the C2 games as PhoneGap build in construct, you can then zip the files and upload it to PhoneGap to put it in the wrapper.
Haha its a very cute game! I love the penguin and coin animations. The simplicity makes the game easy to pic up but still fun to play.
One thing though... the level design and the way the penguin jumps bugs me a little ^^; I think there should be more space allowed for mistakes in the levels. For example in level 1 you have to jump off the very edge of the blocks to get up, or else you bounce back and forwards aimlessly (at least I did ^^;). Level 2 you keep moving backwards if you don't jump quickly enough. Perhaps I'm not very good at this kind of game, but making it a little easier (at least at the beginning!) should also make it more fun! Also, the penguin tends to jump too high and hits itself on the ceiling making it hard to jump - perhaps you could make it jump a little lower?
They're just some suggestions. I'm certainly looking forward to seeing the final outcome of this game though! :)
I've changed the levels so they are a bit easier to play, the jumpheight is almost the same, but due to the levels beeing 'higher' this shouldn't be a big problem anymore. Hope its a bit better now.
Tonight i'll be adding a background music, the last few levels and hopefully a scoreboard (if my events-limit allows me).
I'm currently at 61 events so i'm gonna look to optimise this.
Update - 29/03/2012 - Added female character - background music added (toggle on/off at level selection) - level 1-6 should be as good as done, level 6 is a tough one, level 7 will have lava and more obstacles *visuals might change & hud needs work still
at 50 events at the moment
I hope i'll be finished in time, my long hours at work aren't in favor
Like Wink sez, this is great for a touch game. Essentially a one-button game. I like the music. This is the kind of things I'd like to play when I have a minutes, especially if can save my progress.
Let me know when this gets in the Android store (Play Store) and I'll buy it!
Simple and effective altough it appear i couldn't get shiny gems in the third level on the right of the level, same on the 4° level on upper left and on some others after (5°,6°), seem they are not needed to progress but there should be a way to access them, tried to jump at different positions on the platform but never got it, seem impossible or i sucks horribly. :p
Here i go with a last update before the contest, i got pushed back in finishing a decent demo of this game but here we go, 98 Events so basically i'm stuck with my free version anyways
update 31/03/2012 - Fixed some events which caused a bug - Level 7 finished - Added a 'Free Play' & 'Time Run' mode - Added Online Highscore table for the 'Time Run' mode (thanks to playtomic & it's plugin)
There is much more work to do but this is all i could do for the contest, I only started a good week ago, future updates will contain much more features and a more polished game.
The demo in my top post is up to date, aswell as the android .apk. (I haven't been able to get sound to work yet and the highscore tables could bug out on android, i hope to fix this soon.)
thanks for the positive feedback guys,
@afgho all diamonds except for level 6 should be reachable with ease, the level 6 ones are pretty hard to get BUT possible :) at the moment there is no use of them anyway, they will be used to unlock features in the future. I will also put them on more reachable places.
Is kind hard to me lol, it's really fine, also bonus like implementation in Android. I think you may to add speed options because i have to wait to jump to other platform for 5 seconds that's why, Good luck!
@joannesalfa I agree on the speed option, here's the answer i posted in another thread which basically answers your comment

Very cool - wish the movement got a little faster in the later levels, but very playable, and easy to use controls haha. :)
Thanks for playing my game and leaving feedback, I agree the movement could use a boost in later levels, although some people are having a hard time with the difficulty of the game. I might just add an easy/medium/hard more with increasing speed at higher levels.
One of the new features I'm working is a 'Buff-system', short effects such as speed boosts, bigger jumps, double jumps, lower gravity, slow motion etc... This will hopefully add some interesting gameplay.
Looking forward to those additions - something that might also add an extra dimension would be to have something that changed the function of the that one button occasionally. Just as the old 'screwball scramble' marble game relied on timing, you could have a section of timed platforms/springs that again are triggered by the button press, instead of the default jump for some sections.
maybe you should develop it for android and iphone , etc... because it's simple and easy to control, suit for phone . I really like you game, and wish you made it for phone, mate :)) Good day ya.

Actually that is a very good Idea, I will sure add this to future updates. Instead of controlling the jump, you control the enviroment.

If you read the whole OP, the main focus of this game in beeing able to play it on Mobile Devices, the game is designed for mobile devices.
There is a link to the downloadable .apk also, since the beginning of the contest =)
Iphone is a different story because I need a Apple Publishing License (99$) and an Apple Computer (or emulator). IF the game gets enough players, I might port it over to Iphone aswell.
hell yeah, sry you cause i don't read the whole post :), click on the play demo super fast ^^, hehe, can't wait to play your game i'm downloading it to my galaxy.
You could mix things up with the time honored pinball like bumpers and jumpers. Tiles that launch the character into different directions for some more elaborate puzzling action. Perhaps tiles that rotate the stage, even. You could also have different physics play a role like slick tiles that cause your character to slip and slide, etc.
