Private Subforums!

  • What are private subforums?
A private subforum is your very own subforum here on RMXP.org. If you have a game development team or another group project, it's a great way to keep in touch with the members of your team, and can serve as a useful base of operations for your work. These subforums will be password-protected, and you will be able to share your password with whoever needs access.
  • How can I get one?
Private subforums are one of the perks of donating to RMXP.org. If you're a supporter of the site, then we'll thank you for your donation with a private subforum. Just send a private message to an administrator (Sophist or Venetia, and we'll set it up for you. Give us the name of the subforum and your desired password. Once we see that you've donated to the paypal account, you'll be ready to go. More information on payment/donations is below.
  • Who can see them?
The private forums are for you and your team only. You are free to share the password with anybody on your team, so long as you're not publicly sharing it on the forums themselves. In addition, Global Moderators and administrators will have access to your subforums for moderation purposes (we'll be around to sticky/lock/delete your topics, etc).

Cool, huh? We hope that this feature will help our members create some amazing games to release for the community. But, as I said, these are a gift to donators. What do you have to do to receive this gift? Not much:

  • If you haven't donated before, $20 will make you eligible for a private subforum.
  • If you're already a sponsor, all you need to donate is $15!
  • And of course to be fair, you can donate $30 all at once for a sponsorship and your private forum!

All donations are accepted via Paypal. Please follow the information here.

Should you really still be calling them "donations"?

Yeah, since that's what they are. All money goes towards the site's own hosting.

An added feature of donating. You don't donate just for the sponsor badge or subforum, I hope!

One quick question: is it possible to eventually swap ownership of a private subforum? Say I donated, graciously of all things, for one and am no longer using it; would it be possible to give it to someone else who might use it in a much better way than I would? Or even sell it to him for 10$, or 5$, or something lower than the limit.

Basically, ownership change? Yes, no, tic, toc, pish, posh?

So, can we keep our own rules in these places? Obviously there are your base legal rules that won't eve be altered for obvious reasons, but other than that I could make a...I dunno....Mr Magorium's Porn Emporium?

RMXPW.org was a joke. I don't think we're going to be having April Fools next year.

They're intended for game development teams who want a place to dump project information and such. If you want a porn forum, make an InvisionFree board.

I don't see why there'd be a problem with it. So long as the forum doesn't DIE and isn't flooded with porn or warez everything should be cool.

I would really not suggest selling it, but if you arrange some sort of deal with a person in private there's nothing that we can do about it. We'd really avoid that sort of thing, though.

If you want to donate to the site, and donate enough to receive a private forum, but have no use for one, then by all means you are welcome to set it up for someone else. Likewise, members have donated and given sponsorship status to other members in the past.

It's better than them bitching because we did something and they were too thick to understand what it was.

It's okay Noliander, you weren't the first - and I doubt you'll be the last, to inquire about that.

Edited: Crap, I'm an ignorant American, sue me. Oh wait you can't. :S

It's not even that much. Pity I'm too young to own a credit card to keep a Paypal account, and to lazy to get the 'rents to do it for me.

As much as I'd love to "donate" for a private sub-forum, I could buy a large stuffed panda instead. I could probably have more fun with the panda, but I'm sure people would rather go for the sub-forum, at least they would once you factor in the cost of stuffed panda food.

Err, bravo RMXP.org! Very nice feature you've got there.

What about public sub-forums?

If someone was interested in one of those for one of their projects, do you offer those in a similar exchange for more or less?

No, these were designed for private use only. We don't want the board clogged with public forums that need moderators to police. When there are private forums, everything is less troublesome and problematic, and it looks better. We also don't want to demonstrate official project endorsements to people not-in-the-know about private subforums.

Perhaps the main forum with the FAQ could maintain a list of board owners? Off the top of my head I cannot personally think of a reason why, but I'm sure a public list would be handy.
