I personally think both are nice; however i like the XP ones more.
I moved this to Game Development

We also have a mapping improvement thread
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=65492&start=990
you might be better off posting maps and stuff in there esp if you want feedback

Oh thanks i think the standard ace maps are to square myself but I just like how all the tiles are together. I'll try and post in the right areas to now.

Awesome Bro
Yeah, the XP maps are definitely better, the one thing I HATE about VX and VX Ace are how squared everything looks, it really bugs me and there's nothing that can be done to fix it since it uses tilesets really weird, although I guess for some games it looks fine, I was actually making two games in VX a while back and used the mapping style to my advantage, but I was being "different" in how I actually did the maps, one of them was played as a sidescroller RPG so I could get away with it, lol.

It really depends on what style you're going for. The XP maps look more open, bigger, and suited for exploration. The VX maps give a more nostalgic feel to games like Pokemon (although much more square, of course).

VXace is a superior editor, but if it is just mapping you are going by, the general concensus is that XP is much, much better, unless you are using parallax mapping (mapping pixel by pixel in a graphical editor and then using it as a parallax) which is easier in VXace.

The maps' square-ness doesn't originate from the program, but from the tileset in use. If you use the XP RTP with VXA, you will get the very same maps as in XP, and vice versa - with a few minor differences such as those shadows and parallax backgrounds.

That's not quite true. You have one less layer in Ace, which I've found to be severely limiting when using the XP RTP with it.

I was solely talking about the square appearance... but yeah, the additional layer in XP is indeed a factor overall.

Well it all comes down to how you going to do the maps if you prefer using tilesets then rmxp is a better choose. But if you want to for exemple draw maps in a graphic program then Rmvx - Rmvxace is a better choose.
