A world once whole, now torn apart. A great evil now wishes to bring the worlds together once again. If the worlds merge, both will fall to ruin, and all life will be turned to darkness.
Story
It had been years since Damian Ashling last had a dream of "her". Constantly haunted in his youth by dreams of a girl he has never once met or spoken to. But one night, she returns to him yet again in his sleep.
Near his home lies a cave where Damian and his lifelong friend, Aiden Lorand, used to explore as children. He decides to visit this place once again along with Aiden to try to go back to their childhood to find out what may have triggered the dreams to start again. An earthquake leads Damian, Aiden, and Damian's little brother Zeke into a small room with no exits--except for a large door on the wall.
The door is opened, and they are sucked into a white light bursting from inside. Damian awakens in a castle with Aiden and Zeke no where to be found.
You play as Damian--trying desperately to find his friends, and his way home. On his way he will meet new friends and discover long-forgotten truths about the two worlds; as well as how this world relates to dreams.
Characters
Damian Ashling - Dreamer Damian has a brave, polite, kind-natured spirit. He will help anyone who needs it, and will not abandon a promise for any cost. It is common for these good features to be taken advantage of, though. His encouraging spirit gives him the power to increase strengths of his allies, as well as diminish the strengths of his enemies.
Ariana Aislin - Dreamer Ariana seems to have circumstances very close to those of Damian. They become friends because of this, and she wants to help him find his way home so that she can also find answers for herself. She is very independent, but isn't afraid to let others do things for her. She can be fierce and quick in battle; afflicting enemies with potent diseases.
Zeth Solanis - Disciple A very diligent and intelligent young man obsessed with gaining knowledge. His broad studies have given him knowledge on almost any subject, even magic. He keeps the first book he ever read with him at all times, and uses the contents to defend himself with powerful elemental spells. He feels that he is running out of new things to learn, so he sets out from his home to feed his hunger for knowledge.
Glow - Lucite A demon from the mysterious Intermundus who joins Damian. He cannot talk, but he seems to be very loyal and wants to be close to Damian. Despite his dark background, he has the power of light at his disposal in battle--healing allies, and damaging enemies with powerful light magic is his specialty.
Aiden Lorand- Guardian Damian's lifelong friend who was forced into the dream world along with him. He has a very short temper, but he hides a very emotional and sentimental spirit which gives him the will to protect his friends at all costs. In battle he uses protection magic to defend himself and his allies.
Leandra Ildiko - Warrior One of the last survivors of a city deep under a town in the middle of the ocean. She is a sensitive person, but is not afraid to kill to protect innocent lives. She uses elemental based sword attacks in battle, and can go into a berserk mode to destroy her enemies quickly.
Garett Faltone- Hunter A young man who has a connection to the girl Damian dreamed of. He is very quiet, but when he talks it is always filled with wisdom. He is a hunter by trade, and has an extensive knowledge of various monsters, as well as the ability to deal extra damage to monsters by using species-specific skills.
Naveena Astrid - Psychic A mysterious young woman who remembers hardly anything from her past. She has the ability to read minds, and move objects using only her mind. Her telekinetic abilities give her the power to cause unpredictable damage to enemies, or heal random amounts of health for allies.
Features
-RTAB (Real Time Active Battle System) with RTP front-view sprites.
-Unique armor system--separate slots for Physical Defense, Magic Defense, and Evasion.
K, I fixed it up and even added screens....go...play it....
UPDATE!!:
Kk I've started working on this again ^_^. I have done a little into the part after the end of the demo. They have gone to the other "continent" (which isn't really a continent....you'll see), and are about to get to the point where they will start fighting and the game will more or less begin. By begin I mean when you will start finding monsters, start doing dungeons and what not, getting weapons/armor whatever, leveling up, etc. (you know what I mean).
I do kinda feel bad though cuz it is pretty long before the game actually starts....I'm thinking it will be around 30 minutes until you start. So sorry for anyone who likes just jumping straight into the action.
Sorry, I haven't been updating on here, I have been a little bit on rrrevolution and dubealex, but I've been neglecting rmxp.org, sorry about that. Um but yeah. I am still working on this for those of you who care lol. And I have gotten my antagonist basically all finished up.
Dunno how long it will be till a new demo....more than a month I can tell you that much. But I hope some are looking forward to the next release. For those who liked the story so far, and thought that maybe it would just kinda start to get boring after all that "exciting" part was out of the way, but I think it will be fairly consistent all the way through. I haven't even had any other reference to the girl at the beginning that is somehow connected to Damian, and the antagonist hasn't even been introduced yet (he will also have a connection to the hero...which is always exciting for me in an RPG lol ^_^)
@Afro Samurai: Kk, I will prolly put new screenshots up when I have the next demo version out, and I will try to remember to do png. Those are slightly outdated anyway--there are mild changes to most of them.
Oh whoops, I forgot to put the link to the font you'll need for the demo :P. Install that font and the text SHOULD show up. If it doesn't even after you install that font, restart your PC. It should work.
I updated the first post. Look in the Demo spoiler, the font is there.
It was fairly addicting. The one part I didn't like was the king, after having a fairly energetic attitude, just randomly knowing it was time for him to die. It seemed like you were trying too hard to make it dramatic.
The end of the demo was very hastily done, and will more than likely change. I am running into many, MANY plot holes as I am progressing in the story. Don't be surprised if in the next demo a lot of stuff, including major story events, are changed drasically.
As an open-minded individual, I have always been intrigued by the concept of the human brian, especially recently (for around 2 months), the concept of achieving lucidity while dreaming. An intriguing concept, and your project seems to do a decent job of portraying it.
Also, a few comments on the game itself: The "Cave" did not feel like a cave. The "thousand-foot-abyss" thing only works for certain areas. I like closed areas, as they feel more cave-like. Also, after that excellent scene involving the three, floating unconcious boys, the good ol' RTAB caused a critical error. RTAB is 3.
So far, though: I like it. Well done, very fluent, nice storytelling, a minor issue with seaming on the intro background, and an intriguing concept overall. A+ for Effort, A+ For Potential.
I'm glad you said that cuz I was gonna change the cave to an actual cave but I forgot LOL! And what do you mean about the RTAB? You couldn't play anymore after that?
This actually isn't a new demo. But you NEED to get this demo to replace the one I put out a couple days ago. You won't be able to play past a certain point if you don't. I had a critical error that prevented you from going past a fairly early point in the game, so you'll want to get this one. (On the first post...as always).
Aw, cool. This actually doesn't look too bad. The final map is really ugly, otherwise, cool. Maybe put some more character info up? I'd like to know a little bit more about them. :)
