I don't know how I feel about the killing off of the main characters, or the Facemaker face sets (although, it is, of course, understandable why) but this doesn't actually seem like insane drivvle! I commend thee.

And for the FFX-FFVII thing, it's pretty much 100% varifiably true, having been mentioned by multiple staff members. FFVII takes place about 5000 years after X-2, on a different planet. (Apparently, people from Spira flew to Gaia, but Jenova wiped out all their technology.)

Kind of a head trip.

The only reason I really killed off the characters was to destroy that sense of familiarity, you can't really develop on a character that you didn't personally create. Also if it the likes of Cloud and co. were still alive, the story would just not work.

Facemaker... Yeah, pretty much because it's the easiest way to get faces and make them look like they're from the same universe. I'm not a big fan of mixed faces (drawn and facemaker) because it sort of disrupts the flow. Also with facemaker I can come up with NPC faces in a very short time, giving nearly every named character a face.

A lot of people probably feared this topic and given the title, rightly so. But from what I can see, the story seems to try and blend two Final Fantasy's together. Could be interesting, I'll be watching you.

One problem, if my memory is correct. The only main characters who were ever members of AVALANCHE were Tifa, Berret and Cloud.

I chuckled at the fact that one of the characters is actually called 'Tsundere'. =D

I also like the idea of Cloud being dead, to avoid there being too much of a crutch on the original game. Some of the sprites are a little dodgy, but it doesn't look awful at he moment either. Good job, keep going~

What happens to Rufus? He was assumed dead in FFVII, but in AC it was revealed he actually lived with the Neo Stigma curse on him. So I assume in your game he's just dead?

You may notice that the timing is seemingly off, however this file will not be available until Chapter 2 (The Black Dragoon) which takes place in early 2009.

personally i like the idea of not using the same characters..Cloud vs Sephiroth AGAIN would've been abit of a snore..but i think maybe you should make the game like 50 years in the future..having Cloud & everyone dead just 10 years after is abit too soon..you could make it like 50 years in the future, and Midgar has been rebuilt, and some new places have been discovered too..just an idea

Erm... No.

The story has been in production for at least 3 years, having it set 50 years in the future would mean that completely different characters would be needed, different events would need to occur, practically everything would change. For God's sake it's like trying to set a World War 2 Film in the 1990's, with Hitler plotting something that has already happened. No offense but did you even read the opening post?

EDIT: Also, please be aware that the thread will be being updated soonish as progess has been made with sprites etc.

I am really surprised. I first saw this thread and was thinking to myself.... For Christ's Sake! Not another one!

But, you are right, it is drastically more original than other FF7 Fanboy Games.

I also love how you decided to Incorporate FFX-2 with FF7. I remember playing FFX2 and when it had made the multiple hints that FFX and FF7 took place on the same planet, I nearly shat myself, just because I never took it into consideration. I think if you do it right, you can pull this off, and yes the script may not hint to the ffx2 ff7 connection, but it might be a nice idea to put something in there, though you would have to do it subtly and VERY carefully to pull it off correctly.

Anyways, can't wait to see more on the project. Good Luck!

Also, a little off topic, but I am told by one of my friends who work for game informer that there is speculation that FF13 may also be taking place on the same planet, though probably any regards to that in the game would be done subtly and probably a big stretch of time. Lol, no point in really mentioning that but it was on my mind at the moment.

This is the best idea for a FFVII fangame, and I dont really like FFVII. I don't like FFX so... yeah that's going to be bleh for me. But Sakaguchi stated that he didn't want any FF games related (I guess Nomura broke that. Never liked him anyway. I'll find what Sakaguchi said about the FF games...)

The large FFX references will come in the third planned chapter which is going to be different in that the experimental roleplay following the story will never occur. Just in case your intrested planned names for chapters are:

1. Searching for the Truth
2. The Black Dragoon
3. Conundrum of the Lifestream
4. Northwest Illumination

I do plan on realeasing a small demo which shows the beginning sequence and introduces three of the central characters. The only things I really need to do are touching up on the mappign and working out some of the events without making Elmyra sound like a dumbass.

I've been doing some work on the game recently and have been looking at some of the different systems I'm trying to implement. So far every system (excluding the materia system, for obvious reasons) has been implemented successfully.

In fact, one system that has been completed entirely by using events, which contains another system within it, is now available for viewing through the new 'Video' Spoiler in the first post.

Alot of this stuff seems like a good story but with final fantasy 7 it is sorta impossible. For example Red 13 would never be a dictator... also he lives 500 years later and shows no signs of being evil and midgar is nice and destroyed still. Also Cloud dying from a crash??? yea he can fall from a thousand feet high and not die so i'm pretty sure he can survive a plane crash and this would only be 8 years after Dirge of Ceberus. So...that would leave the death topic out of the story Cid is too interested in engineering to ever be a doctor. Vincet would still be trying to find a way to atone for his past. Yufi would still be trying to steal materia. Catsith would prolly still exist with some association with ShinRa. Avalanche doesn't have any point in existing because ShinRa is a broken company with no means of revival. Tifa could maybe have a chance of marrying cloud BUT cloud would still be a very closed up person and still regretful of his past still and prolly never marry. A true Final Fantasy 7 fan would gather this knowlegde before making a game...its disrespecting the true background of each character. I like the idea of you making a Final Fantasy game but if you kill all the characters its not really Final Fantasy 7 anymore... If you take away the characters and the true story line then there is no Final Fantasy 7. Some people might disagree with this post but its my opinion...and its based on facts behind each character and each possible outcome. If you don't like my opinion deal with it....

People change, if most of your friends suddenly dropped dead you might be a little cranky too. And 490 years is plenty of time to turn back to the good side.

I've never played DoC and it's story is irrelevant, if you paid attention you'd understand the story was written in 2005/2006. Airships fly higher than 1000ft, and if the fall didn't kill him the explosions and the shrapnel would probably be able to kill him, no matter how you look at it he's still human.

There is an explanation for this. But AVALANCHE's primary goal was always to protect the planet, not fight ShinRa.

Cloud only really closed up in Advent Children, which I've already explained was omitted in the story. And again people do mature.

This game caught my eye merely because of the materia battle system. Its frankly the best game mechanic ever devised. Although I have to say that you should change the Battler graphics to make it more of a FF7 sequel. Its fine to use sprites for the overworld, but its best to go with more intricate battle graphics. Just a suggestion.

Really don't get how i made an ass of myself...as i said before...its my opinion. Your is different and so are alot of peoples, not here to argue just stating my opinion. Thats what forums are for, Dicussing things, stating facts and opinions. Never said i'd dislike your game, I was stating that in my opinion your straying away from the true story behind Final Fantasy 7. Sorry if i offended you or anyone else in that case.

The 'true' story of FFVII ended for many with FFVII:BC, after that it sort of started to get... stupid. The fight scenes in AC were enough to put me off the spin-offs. Then again, for what seems like the millionth time: The story was composed before the crappy spin-offs. That is all I have to say on that matter, apart from the fact that I'm sorry I've failed to update in a while.

Concerning a demo, it seems like everyday I'm inching towards a solid demo that would be the introduction and first 'dungeon', the mapping is practically finished and the only things I need to work out is the eventing. Sadly, the materia system doesn't like it when the names of spells are changed so it will not be present until SephirothSpawn makes his new release of the Materia script.
