So!! here it is.. the biggest project i have ever started (and will finish hopefully), what makes this project big its not just the vast resource database i have been creating to make it complety unique, but the game that is behind the idea.. an old NES classic:

Content Hidden

The game was side-scroller plataform game, many people found it kind of annoying because of its difficulty while others consider it as one of the best "go save the princess" games ever made; my game will be based (vaguely)on this magical world & its inhabitants while adding plots & stuff of my own, the idea is to make a worthy remake for a game that deserves it.

Right when I started fighting after the action instructions, the game crashed. I hit down and swung my sword and BONK.

Game looks really amazing, by the way. I do recommend working on the grammar and spelling errors, though. "im" does not equal "I'm." Little things like that really hold a game back.

Oh yes! I remember that NES game quite well!

The most frustrating aspect was the horrible jump mechanic coupled with hair-splitting collision detection... But I do remember being fairly addicted, and making my way to later levels.

I think in my youth I was infatuated with the pixie character, heheh.

Anyhow, your game looks markedly different from the usual RM fare, so I applaud you for that. Be careful not to let all of your environments fall into that drab dungeon theme.

Wish I could remember a storyline for Astyanax, but I'm not sure there really was one :o:

Point of order chief, a fuckton of rips from various jrpg's and Baldur's gate II SoA and ToB does not constitute 100% custom resources. There is nothing custom about taking other people's stuff that was used in other commercial products and putting them in your game. Not to mention that the Baldur's gate tilesets don't match the style or pallette of your jrpg sprites.

Also I noticed the words retail version in your post. There is no way you can sell this with all the copyrighted material you are using. And I doubt Bioware and where ever else you ripped stuff from would be receptive to allowing you to repackage their properties.

Oohh so im being a thief now, I think you got the meaning of the word "Customization" wrong there, since every resource is modified to personal my taste, the charsets were not created in RMXP format, i had to rezize, cut and paste heads, shields, accesories, change colours, add shadows and rearrange the right stuff into a new template.. are the re-coloured RTP charsets more custom than that?, the animations had to be re-adapted to their new player and the maps were rezized, the layers were cut carefully so player and events could not go under everything, the passing points were set manualy FOR EACH MAP and rearranged again to fit perfectly because they are not single tiles..
My point is that those "fuckton of rips from various jrpg's and Baldur's gate II SoA and ToB"(im not impressed if you knew the games or not since im not hidding their belongings) MEANED HOURS AND HOURS OF MY OWN WORK ON THEM.
Secondly, im not taking any credits of the resources used in this game even if i had to re-adapt them.. the credits for each owner/artist are there.. im not selling or getting any profit from it neither, i just missunderstood the meaning of the word "retail", english is not my first language you know, but i try my best..
In conclusion i made this game as a recreational activity not to break bones and ruin allmighty game companies.
my next game called "Dragon PHantasy of the Crystal Chronicles"
will use 100% hand drawn stuff or maybe i just should stick to RTP because i suck at drawing :smoke:
You are the first one that doesnt agree whit my resources and i respect your opinion, thanks for your comments =)

PS: has anyone go past the Maze? even i get lost in it sometimes :S

Hi chief, no reason to rage. Still not custom, though. Setting passability, resizing, and recoloring (though the tilesets look the same as they did in Baldur's Gate) does not custom make. Since you are a non native speaker i will simply mention that using the word custom in this context infers the resource was uniquely produced and crafted, not screen-capped and re-sized.

You really should consider another sprite style or tileset because they clash really bad.

Acording to a dictionary i got in hand right now:
"Customization, anything made or modified to personal taste"
thats were im based to call them custom resources, if i had specified them as "Custom Created" i would not disagree whit that comment and as i told you before, it was not as easy as just copy and paste.. other people call their resources as "Custom" when they didnt even touched or edited them..Im using the term to diference the resources from the ones of common use and RTP not to take any credits for their creation ;)

Mmm well i dont really see alot of diference in the colors, they are slighty brigter and most of the movements and the atacks are seen as a isometric view, i could have used BG sprites too but i just didnt like them enough, they are not expresive and the quality goes down in the rezize process, i started this project as an experiment (making maps using pictures) and to tell you the truth couldnt find better resources for this xD
you are the first one that thinks and tells me that the sprite style and the tilesets clashed really bad..
Have you played it anyways?? :3
I better wait until a full critic review comes out before i change anything as it is..

PS:My reactions by your comments were more about amazement than ragging by the way all of my work was resumed as "a fuckton of rips from various jrpg's and Baldur's gate II SoA and ToB" as it made me feel like a thief, or someone who just takes somebody else work and effordesly(does this word even exist?) make a game out of it taking all of the credits.

Not being a native speaker and all (Which I myself am not), I'll tell you, that your content is therefore "Customized" (sp?) not "custom".
Custom really means, that it is resource that in no way, be it in other resolution coulourpattern, or whatever existed, before you created it. Clearly yours did. Therefore it is not custom.

Other than that I have to agree that your sprites clash with your tileset. The dark color 3D tiles clash with the light 2D Sprites (not saying that 2D Sprites in 3D Envoirment never works. It just doesn't in this case)

On the positive side I have to say, that the system looks nice. I don't have time to play it though at the moment, so I can't really judge how it looks in action.

Hope this helps

Okay i will stop discussing terminology, "custom" will be changed to "customized" or "unique" Or simply "non-RTP" ..

Okay.. nothing a bit of HUE In-saturation and inner shadows cannot fix ;) i will upload a fixed version soon and add a nice quest log too..

i've an idea of how much work ripping graphics can be...

so i'm downloading now and will be very interested to see what kind of layer action you've got going on... as well as how large these maps are.

personally i don't mind the characters standing out a bit from the tileset... just cuz i hate not being able to see where in the heck i am on the screen and having to go all squinty eyed to play through dark areas.

hope you didn't lock up ur resources... if you're going to all the trouble of ripping them - i'll hope that you are also releasing them into the rmxp (hbgames) community.

peace,
SorcerGamble2

(EDIT: -Awesome- rips bro. Epic tilesets... though i was hoping for a few more. Everything went together beautifully. Very nice edits and resizes on the characters. The battle system is very fluid. I had my hopes up in hoping for 8-directional enemy attacks ... i have yet to see that in a decent rmxp game (not that it doesn't exist necessarily). But it looks like the Hero movement and attacks are full 8 directional. And the enemies are still very impressive. The movement animation on the hero is a little sketchy - sometimes the iso view kicks in, sometimes it doesn't.

Beautifull work man... i hope you keep it up and finish what you have started.)

Wuzup guys!! ;8
I included:
- Updated Screenshots showing new maps, Blizz-ABS features, animations for those who have not much time to play or download heavy files.
- A Maze Guide (if you get too lost )
- Updated game progress, the blueprints for the rest of the game are complete (somehow it looks all messed in this forum as it doesnt recognizes blank spaces)

They were never locked since the first relase and i dont want more people to think that im taking complete credit for all those, you are free to use them so its all the Hbgames community.. Remember that if you want to export the tilesets you will need to export the passabality and second layers aswell.

Thanks a lot for your comments my friend, im glad you like it =)
I planned to make more tilesets but the problem relies in the zize of each (5mb) whit quality and zize minimized, and the system itself is still non isometric, the atack ranges are represented as blocks, anyways i gave them a "flail" or "sword" ranges so they hit as they should.. the fluid battles and the enemy AI is thanks to the Blizz- ABS which i may say its the best scripted battle system out there for any rpg-maker..

Ripping assets from games might be hard work, you might have put a thousand hours of effort in, but its still stealing. Sure, you modified them, that brings us to another point, you do NOT have the right to modify them. Just because you credit them does not make it legal. They didn't ask for you to credit them credit, they didn't allow you to use it to begin with.

If you have to, at least use FREE ones which people give away or post, ask the creators of any nice tilesets for permission. (Right, like i would believe you already asked and WoTC or Gravity gave you permission to use it...)

Read darkadam:
Have you ever seen game titles like "Final Fantasy X" [Insert stuff that already exists here], Kingdom Hearts soundtracks [insert more re-distributed music here] or characters like Sonic, Goku, Sephirot re-appearing over and over in every RPGMaker fan game? well.. you can be sure they were never given permission to use those names, use the music or steal their stories and NOBODY complains, not even the [Insert company name here] UNLESS you are getting benefits for their stuff or hurting their busisness & i can ensure you this will not take away their sleep so please stop mind-fucking me with such pointless matter, why dont you ask how did i transform a picture into a RMXP map thats what the project is about anyways, experimenting, now i see it was a bad idea to share it in the lawyers forum since only a few people seem to care about the game itself.

"you do NOT have the right to modify them." Then MODDING/EXTRACTING tools should be forever banned from the face of the earth dont you think so?
Its funny because i used the tools i found on Spellhold Studios site dummy. :specs:

So from now on i will just answer stuff related to the game (thats why i posted it anyways) if you care more about copyright infligments or more off-topic you can either:
1.- Sue me.
2.- Call the police
3.- Retire my topic and all of its resources
You are on your right.

Games have something called STORY, GRAPHICS, SOUND, GAMEPLAY
The resources ARE related to the game but when you start flooding this topic whit endless legal philosophy and more irrelevant babble like this:
(ex1: )
Quote:
Since you are a non native speaker i will simply mention that using the word custom in this context infers the resource was uniquely produced and crafted, not screen-capped and re-sized.

Oohh i see, interesting (looks for a Spanish-English dictionary)
(ex2:)
Quote:
Ripping assets from games might be hard work, you might have put a thousand hours of effort in, but its still stealing.

What is stealing and what is not? a great dilema, not related to THE GAME..
(ex3:)
Quote:
Sure, you modified them, that brings us to another point, you do NOT have the right to modify them.

Confirmation Bias.. There are tools made so people can edit their stuff and extract anything as needed. (altough you cannot distribute them)

This game is just like any other damned game posted here.. some people take commercial songs (more often than anything else) ,copyrighted character names, sometimes use ripped material (specially RM2003 users) and dont get hanged for it, its not my fault that most of you people are too lazy or dont have that much time or knowledge to chose your resources as wanted, i would rather draw all the stuff myself in Ms-paint with my non-existant artistic skills than make another RTP game or use those typical tilesets and recoloured RTP :barf:

On-Topic stuff:

Quote:
Right when I started fighting after the action instructions, the game crashed. I hit down and swung my sword and BONK.

Game looks really amazing, by the way. I do recommend working on the grammar and spelling errors, though. "im" does not equal "I'm." Little things like that really hold a game back.

Technical info, constructive Hints
