Magic Knight Ray Earth - The Path of Souls
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Notice: Images, sounds, concepts and game title "Magic Knight Ray Earth" belongs to the respective artist and creator and im only just remaking a "Magic Knight Ray Earth" rpg into fan based game using rpgmakervx. I have categorized the sprite and images into the following to make it easier for me and to other as well when viewing my sprites.

HB: Home brew, means originally made by me.
R: Ripped, means it belongs to some respective artist who made them and not me.
M: Modified, means original artwork made by other was modified by me to be used on some purpose.

Goal:Creating an rpg is really a complex process no matter how you look at it so in order for me to get familiar and aquainted on rpg making I decided to remake some good old SNES rpg and add some twist...(my own story fan game) on it. This project serves as a learning tool for me by creating games with RpgmakerVx engine. To become acquainted with the creation processes which comes with rpgmaking such as eventing, coding, spriting, and many more. This will also give an experience for me on how it feels to create an rpg and have fun at the same time by having interactions with fellow rpgmaker community.

Plot:
The story was based from the original game, manga and heres my summarize plot from the said story.

The story strats from three ordinary high school girls who was mysteriously warped into another dimension(Cephiro) where fantasy, monsters and magics exist. Princess Emuraude who was held captive at that time, had summoned the three Legendary Knights with all the power she got to bring back order and peace on the realms of Cephiro. So the story goes on to the three teen aged girls to act on their new roles and accept their predestined fate...that is to become the "Legendary Knights".

I was thinking of remaking a Magic Knight Ray Earth rpg on RPGmakerVX which was made in 1995 on japan by Tomy. It is based on the Super Nintendo game "Mahou Kishi Rayearth" rpg and will be just a purely fan game work from me.
I started thinking of copying the introduction game "Mahou Kishi Rayearth" rpg (snes game) yesterday and started on the process of making it into rpg makervx version hours ago just to see if it would be the same and im pretty much happy about the result. So far only the introduction of the game is the one that you can see so far and its still at the very early stages of work. Any comments, suggestions and helps are welcome and much appreciated.

Project Discussion Rules wrote:
1. Minimum requirements for a thread
There is a set of requirements that must be met when creating threads. These requirements show us that you are making an effort with your project and want constructive advice and feedback.

  • At least two screenshots. Screenshots show that you’ve actually made progress on your project beyond conceptual stages. Your screenshots need to show actual gameplay, not just title screens or menus.
  • At least one full paragraph of story description. You need to tell us what happens during the game, and what the player will be doing and trying to accomplish.

As stated in the rules, you'll need to update your topic with at least two screenshots and a paragraph of story description if you want to keep this topic open. Sprites don't count as screenshots.

If your game is too early in development and you don't have enough progress to post screenshots then I'll lock this topic for now and reopen it when you have some screenshots ready.

Hi dadevster sorry i was thinking that the two images were enough...and i forgot to include some game shots from the game itself. I have updated with the plot and images from the game as well as some latest sprites i've been working on for the project.

Its still on the very early stages of development so i cant give much screen shot about the actual game itself but ill be working on it eventually... until i finished gathering those pesky sprites.

At the moment still working on sprites and the recent work I have done so far is creating a message box that mimics the message windows used from snes game.Im still testing the windows that I have customly made for vx and heres some screen shot from the game.

The message window is looking pretty good, but be careful when you're resizing sprite work. In the screenshot with the larger face picture you can clearly distinguish leftover artifacts from the resizing process-try to avoid this is possible as it detracts from the quality of the game. If you can, try to resize not with decimas (making it bigger by a factor of say 1.5 or 1.8) but instead use whole numbers (making it two or three times bigger, say). That way you'll keep the original spritework intact. Just something to keep in mind.

Are you planning on using ripped tilesets as well?

Thanks for the notice dadevster, actually thats my problem when it comes to resizing sprite works. The sprites always tends to deteriorate when I try to resize, now you mention about whole numbers that makes sense! thanks alot ill try it.

Probably yes with little bit modification and tune ups so it would blend with vx tile sets. Also if I'm gonna ripped the sprites and convert it to vx then i might as well use the tiles from there too with little vx tile sets together to make it easier. I would also like to try making a custom sprite specially made for vx so that they may blend together, sounds good but this gonna take more time for me .
