For many years, the duchy of Hohen Llyvenhagen has enjoyed peace and prosperity, under the wise rule of it's Duke; but with doom on the horizon, will it live to see tomorrow?
This is a small project that Legacy and I decided to undertake in order to get back in the swing of things. We're doing as much as we can together. :3 Llyven will eventually serve as the first game to be released on Legacy's Enigma Engine.
Hohen Llyvenhagen is a city nestled deep in the Welsh mountains. It was formed when germanic settlers forged a truce with the indigneous tribes many hundreds of years ago. Due to it's location, Llyvenhagen is rarely bothered by threats... Until a new enemy appeared.
The unknown enemy besieged the castle overnight. It was the brave and valliant efforts of the five knighthoods of Llyvenhagen, led by their captain, Kaiser, that led them to victory. Though no official name was given to the enemy, the citizens came to know them as the Kobold. Since their defeat at the siege, the Kobold have sent small raiding parties to attack Llyvenhagen, all fended off by the knighthoods.
Hedge Gwyn is a knight in the 4th knighthood of Llyvenhagen; and tonight, He's on patrol duty.
An innovative yet classic storyline; intentional yet subtle clichés to revive the feelings you thought lost to modernized stories. Engage in the changing environments. Go from a vivid, colourful city, into dark, twisted forests and dungeons. One man Combat system, utilising a never before seen mechanic. Details will be posted at a later date. One man Menu system - Created by Legacy. Custom soundtrack - Composed by yours truly. Visual novel style cutscenes, and custom facesets. Custom Sprites - Hand-drawn by Leongon

Here I'll post some ideas for enemies or bosses. I'll try to keep it spoiler free, but if I get excited about an idea, I'll mark it accordingly.
The Bark Centipede
The Bark Centipede is a creature native to the Bygors swamp. When newly hatched, they are harmless insects that feed on the bark of trees. However, as they mature, they can prove troublesome, as they begin to hunger for meals that are more alive. They release sweet scents that tempt creatures to eat them. When ingested, the centipede, however disfigured, regenerates and consumes the creature from within.
The Queen Bark Centipede is known to take on a disguise of a great tree which consumes any wildlife that comes into contact with it. The Queen releases a sweetly scented, thick, sticky resin on it's bark-like skin. Creatures who are attracted to and trapped by the resin become connected to the Queen. The process involves a tendril which breaks into the creature's body and sprouts roots around it's internal organs. The roots slowly drain all the nutrients, water and energy from the creature, whose body eventually shrivels and becomes another piece of bark on the Queen's carapace. Just before the queen dies, she stands on end, and her body hardens as she turns into a tree completely. After one year, She flowers and bears fruits that hatch into more Bark Centipedes, which feed on the bark of the dead Queen. The centipede which consumes the heart of the dead Queen is elected as the new Matriarch.
Black Undines
Black undine - Dark faeries of water. Once cheerful water faeries, they have been contaminated by blood and turned into Black Undines.
Depressed beings by nature, a black undine appears as nothing but a dark puddle. They live for hundreds of years, and sometimes wait for decades on end to snatch their prey. If a creature steps into, or is splashed by a black undine, they are doomed. The undine's water creeps beneath the skin of the creature and turns it's blood into water. It then consumes the creature's muscles and internal organs, and inhabits it's skin. A creature posessed by a black undine is said to leak thick black liquid from every possible outlet. Posession is the only way that Black Undines can assimilate a physical form; they are otherwise restricted to the state of a pool of dark water. They prize the blood of humans above all, and use their devious minds to ensnare even the wittiest of travellers.
Now we're talkin'. Here are some samples of the pieces I've composed for this project. They're only short samples. Enough for you to get the gist of them.
You have an interesting set of information here. I'm in love with the art, as well. It has a retro anime vibe to it that works well. You need to have at least three screenies in here though dood. I'm not saying that purely because it's the rules - but because I wanna see some damn screens. Anyways. I think you should patch up the thread a wee bit, maybe explain some of the features a bit more in depth (as opposed to just listing them out). But overall, it seems like you're moving in a positive direction with this. Keep up the good work.
This project has sparked my interest... Although the artist seems to be a bit lazy on the character art as far as I can tell from the screenshots. The only thing that really bothers me as an artist is Elena's forehead, which seems to be huge, and huger in the screenshot where she looks angry...
I like the concept of the story, however all you can predict is a danger to the town, will it grow to be more than the town in danger? Anyways, the music sounds really nice, but I'm wandering if you'll be going down farther enough to actually complete the game or not?

Tyahand
Thanks for the critique, zchin/Tyahand. It wasn't my artist who was lazy. It was me being cheap. I had him draw the bodies without faces, and draw several expressions separately, that I might mix and match the eyes etc. I'll probably ask him to do a few different poses for the characters at some point.
As for Elena's forehead, it's not likely I'll have it changed, but my artist thanks you for the constructive criticism, and he'll work on that kind of thing in his art in future.
The danger in the town is always a good way to start, I think. Of course everything will eventually end up on a much bigger scale, but, it's part of the charm. I decided that it was becoming too cliché to avoid the clichés, so I figured I'd use them to my advantage and make a classic story with an innovative touch.
I try my hardest on the music. I'm getting better all the time, so there will come a point where I'll have to remaster the first tracks again, but I think they'll end up sounding pretty good.
And, as for finishing, I have a very positive mind about this project. I feel that I've managed to avoid the age old mistake of biting off more than I can chew, by making a project that is both cost and time effective, and generally manageable by Myself and Legacy.
In other news, I've opened up a concept art tab in the thread. I hope you enjoy seeing the characters come alive!

Haha, tyahand stands for thank you and have a nice day, which I used to always end my post with about 2 years back, so I got lazy and just used tyahand instead because I felt like I shouldn't waste my efforts in ending all my posts with it... But if you would like, I could possibly do some art, or edit some portraits for you since I have a bit too much spare time, and summers coming and there's nothing for me to do.
Ah. Thanks, zchin. It's a kind offer, but I'm going to stick with the same artist for the project's in game graphics, for the sake of consistency and to give him an opportunity to improve his skill. However, if you want to create some concept art of the characters, or even create a design for an enemy, I would appreciate the input greatly and I'd put you in the credits of the game.
