"The dialogue, characters, and story in the game are all pretty great. For that alone, I would definitely recommend playing this title." says RPG RPG Revolution's Official Review in July of 2009. "8.0" Source

"The tone of the game, as you'll see, is very devil. Difficult to [not] smile in the face of countless dialogue of rare stupidity that [you'll] read [while] playing." says Rpg2s Magazine in their September 2008 Issue. "8.5" Source

*The Player's Guide is very outdated. I'm constantly updating and revising the game. I couldn't keep up with the changes in the guide and it's currently outdated by over a year. I leave it because there are still some clues to some of the trickier parts.

I love the tilesets, but they clash with the charsets.

You know, that's funny. I've heard that a couple times from different RMXP sites, but I've never heard that from Ultima Online sites. This is my first game (and last) and it doesn't bother me, I kind of like it. I think a lot of people who see so many games have it wired in their brain and it just sticks out like a sore thumb instantly when they see it. But it's still a fair criticism. I like how the chests and the logs in the swamp pop out. Tells the player they can interact with it.

EDIT: If anyone downloaded v1.008, there's a bug in it where you can't get out of the first dungeon. I was fixing the event of the quest giver in there and forgot to check the switch on the 2nd page. v.1009 is already up.

It's a self-rated "M" rating. Just to give people fair warning.

There's no nudity or anything like that. But there is the occasional swear word, lots of blood, but mostly it's because of a lot of *wink wink* *nudge nudge* *hint hint* jokes going on. A lot of sexual innuendo.

I'm also uploading v.1010 as I type this. It includes the first little map at the beginning of Act II and your first chance to start fishing. It took me a couple days to do, just a lot of events (like the rest of the game). No complex scripts.

Here's more info on my fishing system:

I love the intro of this game, though I'm stuck at the dungeon place where the game starts, it's the part where you see all this blood all over the place.
EDIT: Nevermind I read the player's guide.

Whelp.

Time for another break. My fall semester starts next week. The version that's up right now is going to be the latest version for a while. I'm still shooting for 20+ hours (5 hours per Act), but I'm taking my time. I don't see it finished for another 2-3 years. I'll bump this again when I have a significant amount of progress up. (Hopefully finished with Act II.)

I would take off the M rating in the title screen (just don't include one). People add those to make their games look cooler, but let's be honest here, would you really not allow a 13 year old to play your game?

I would, but some parents might not. This game contains:

-Sexual Innuendo
-Adult Situations
-Blood & Gore
-Adult Language

Emphasis on the innuendo and less on the language. I personally don't really care, it's all in good humor, but I could see some parent being offended.

Right, well most ratings these days are based on games with highly advanced and realistic 3D graphics. You can depict all of the above as much as you want in primitive RMXP/ripped old-school RPG graphics and people aren't even going to see how shocking they are...

(adult language also, is generally a Teen-level indicator, unless you use the F word more than once)

Well I'm going what's acceptable on the official UO forums. Every time someone goes over the top, they always cite the Teen rating on the game (which used to be Mature). They always say if you're not allowed to say or do something in game, you're not allowed to say it on the forums. And in the game I definitely say things I would never say on the forums.

Take into account that my main audience is the Ultima Online players and my site is well known (relatively to UO players), and take into account that it's a very old game and the average UO player is in their mid 20's with even 30, 40, and 50 year olds. (I'm 25 myself and I'm one of the younglings.) Ultima Online is a 2D isometric game. Those people couldn't care less if it's not ultra realistic 3D.

Take all of that and you got yourself a lot of parents who know of my site who have kids and who are used to what is rated Teen and what is not. According to them, this game is not.

I'm not saying you're wrong. But you're describing Teen and Mature in general. This isn't in general, because I know my audience.

(And I've used the F-bomb exactly twice so far, but it's over a 6 hour play time. I could take one out, but there will be more by the end of the game. And like I said, that's not the point.)

Hm, I've played more of this game recently. It is actually pretty good (still not worthy of an M rating but whatever). As an Ultima fan I like all of the references and the feel of a western RPG that you tried to recreate. Personally I would try to use UO rips to replace the tilesets and even the sprites completely, but that might be too much effort.

I do agree with Diedrupo that this isn't really M-rated material. Aside from that, I find the game to be quite unique and humorous. Great job so far.

Hooray! UO is awesome. Nice use of the UO texture's too. It kinda sucks that UO's item placement is the way it is, else it would be perfect. Good job.

i have 2 complaints, sorry but here they are.

1 I feel that the little men you have as face sets are REALLY bad,

2 The dialog seems really cheesy like you are trying to hard to make it sound like a rpg

but anyway thats just me

good luck :)

Very interesting..

To those saying the tilesets don't fit..of course not..they are all from Ultima Online..which has skinnier and taller chars..so of course things would be a little off...looks interesting though.

You should snag some UO character's too, so it fits better.

I agree..grab UO Inside (or Inside UO can't remember) and you can pull all the datafiles (graphics) directly from the game...course..I guess you are aleady doing that..lol..

I have played a bit of the demo and I actually enjoy it quite a bit..makes me laugh and brings some nostalgia up..very cool.

^With more customization, I would suggest getting RunUO and building a few character to use as sprites. Then maybe build a few houses, etc.

I think if you used it right, using UO tiles could work fine.

Anyone wanna play UO with me? D:

Yeah...sadly EA stepped in and ruined it when they made Age of Shadows. But there's tons of free servers that are Pre AOS.

Wow... I haven't visited these forums in a couple months. Development on the game has been put on hold. I'm just so busy right now.

So... a couple people have played it after all. :thumb:

I do intend to finish it and I will pick the game up later (I have in the past). As of now, it stands at 30% complete and 6 hours long.

[QUOTE=XcuMaSoft;292915]i have 2 complaints, sorry but here they are.

1. Hm... I don't think they look that bad. Over the past 1+ year I've received a lot of complaints and tips to make it better and you're actually the first to point this particular thing out. But like much of the game there are a lot of times where I could choose "something better" versus choosing "something from Ultima Online." Most of the time I choose UO. The constructive criticism is welcome, but I doubt I'll change it. :*)

2. It is very cheesy. ;)

I would disagree and say that I'm trying very hard to make it not sound like every other rpg out there. If my way of attempting that is to up the "cheese" factor, so be it. :thumb:

If anything... I'd be happy with an, "At least it's different..." response:

"At least it's different and I don't like it."
"At least it's different and I enjoyed it."

Either way, I'll take that response and it is expected.

[QUOTE=Diedrupo;292373]Hm, I've played more of this game recently. It is actually pretty good (still not worthy of an M rating but whatever). I'll think about it. This seems to be the biggest complaint. I really don't want to just because I like those pudgy little guys.

I still think this complaint comes solely from people who are familiar with RMXP and have played many-a-game. To them, it stands out like a sore thumb. To everyone else, they're just pudgy little guys roaming around a sightly higher detailed world.

got trapped twice, if ya decide to return to south luna, ya wind up stuck between the tent and the fence everytime....
the log split in half when it rolled (he,he really weird) and everything froze, but so far all the saves work fine, and I can start back where I saved and dodge these strange traps ya set ;)

nice game, not a damn thing wrong with the graphics, people must have some preconcieved notions, I have never seen the 'UO' being mentioned repeatedly, and I assure you the contrast is good, the proportions are good, everything looks great.....what do they want, someone else's game? Please don't work your butt off to please a few, critics have the biggest mouths, and just to balance things, I really like your style. I would not have chosen the facesets you used myself, but this is not a big issue, ultimately the game is yours......and it is fun! gonna play with it somemore....

'nother split log, this'un didn't hold me up tho, happened pushing it back after collecting the blank scrolls...
