Iron Gaia Part II: Mana From Heaven
A GHOSTLIGHT PRODUCTION

Iron Gaia Part II: Mana From Heaven, Iron Gaia 2 or IG2 for short from now on, since the full title is a hell of a mouthful, is a lot of things.

It is the final part of a science fiction epic that at its' conclusion will be at least 6 years in the making. It is my magnum opus, my greatest achievement as a game maker and my farewell letter to the game making community. It is the product of the hard work of not just myself but a team of several extremely talented individuals, artists and a composer. It will also, I hope, be the first truly great RMXP game, the first 'killer app' for the new engine. My hopes for the project are obscenely high, my ambitions huge. It is the culmination of all I've been working for in the 5 years since I first downloaded RPG Maker 2000. And with any luck at all, it'll be a lot of fun.

The Story So Far...
Please note...this contains some (minor) spoilers for Iron Gaia 1 and Iron Gaia: Virus.
If you haven't played one of those games yet, read at your own risk.

May Contain Spoilers

Features

Here's a list of Iron Gaia's features, from great to small.

*Augmentation System allows for complete, freewheeling customization of all your characters. Cyberware and Bioware Augmentations of all kinds can be installed at Cyberterminals and Augmentation clinics to increase your character's stats, teach them new skills, imbue permanent beneficial status effects and special abilities, install integral weapons systems, and allow access to new areas in the field. Also, Cyberware customization is completely optional- your characters have their own level based advancements in skills and stats, so it's your choice how much or how little cyberware to install in each character. Lots more info on cyberware later.

*Purity System Purity is a measure of a character's humanity, the integrity of body and spirit, and their connection to the Aether. Every character starts with 100% Purity, but every Augmentation has a purity cost. The more Augmentations you install, the more powerful you'll become, but the less human you'll be. Low Purity means less benefit from Aetherial Magic, and some enemies even have special skills that can damage you based on your Purity. Also, different characters will react differently to you depending on your purity. A family will be less likely to ask for help from a half human monster, but street toughs would be hesitant to mess with a cyborged badass.

*Dynamic Equip System Different characters will have one or two weapons, a weapon with an attached secondary device (underbarrel grenade launcher, top-mounted scope, etc.) as well as equippable items for the hands, helm, torso, and accessories. The amount of equipment slots depends on the character and their situation. Sometimes installing certain cyberware will create a new slot for an item that's permanently equipped.

*Weapon Upgrade System Instead of changing weapons like in most games, certain characters in IG2 will stick with a favored weapon that they're good at using for the entire game, but will improve the weapon by installing upgrades that can increase damage, add special bonuses, inflict status effects, or even enable special skills.

*Ascension To Godhood: Levels in Iron Gaia 2 serve as a metaphor for 'ascension to godhood'. Level 1 is an innocent and weak human, Level 25 the peak of human potential, Level 40 a powerful Celestial, whereas a Level 99 character would be like a God. Different characters have different 'peaks' depending on what they are. Humans can never become as powerful as Celestials by leveling up alone, and hence must use Cyberware or other means to become equal at higher levels.

*Powerful Rage Techniques Returning from Iron Gaia 1 and Iron Gaia: Virus, Rage Techniques are ultimate, limit-break style moves that cost Health to use, as well as an amount of Energy equal to the Max Energy of the level they're learned at. Rage techniques are learned every 10 Levels, and can have huge effects on the battle besides dealing massive damage, such as:

i. The Navigator's Level 2 Disintegrate Rage Technique, which deatomizes enemies and absorbs their health.
ii. The Messiah's Level 1 Sacrifice Rage Technique, which gives her life to fully heal the rest of the party.
iii. The Vision's Level 1 Irradiate Rage Technique, which cripples an enemy with radiation poisoning.

*Tons Of Skills, Items, and Equipment! By the end of the game, every character will have at least 15 Unique Skills (not counting Rage Techniques) and Carter will boast 30+ skills. Additionally massive amounts of equipment allow for further character customization.

*Optional Dungeons and Sidequests! New to the Iron Gaia series, Iron Gaia 2 will feature non-linear elements: no longer confined to the Gaia station, the ruins of a mysterious planet will be yours to explore, and the game's 4 main areas can be visited in any order you choose.

*The Conclusion of an epic scifi story 6 Years in the making! The Iron Gaia series has been praised for the story it tells above all else, and telling this story is the game's ultimate purpose. Final Carter and his friends to the final battle, and uncover the last of the Iron Gaia's secrets.

:: sigh :: So should I even bother redoing ALL of the topic information? This question's obviously directed to those who SAW IT BEFORE since you obviously can't SEE IT NOW. Because clearly I've lost most of my energy from this stupid fucking forum hack.

You could simply ask a mod to reload it from its last edit.

You don't have to ask a mod.... Just click "View Edit History" on the left of your post and click to find out which edit you want up and then copy and paste. However, you'll probably want like notepad or something open so you can copy the image locations and paste them there so you can add them to the new post. Because evidentally there isn't a nice button that says "restore this edit" or anything and copy/paste won't paste the image links.

And I'd do it dude; this game was looking friggan sweet.

I tried the edit history thing and it totally didn't work. I have a feeling a mod wouldn't have any more luck, particular after the backup restore bone up. (No offense to any mods who might be reading this.) I'd have to manually put it all back up there (well, I happen to have the same topic on a different forum, but all the image addresses need to be chaned, which will be a pain in the ass.

Anyway: I'll get around to fixing it eventually. Until then: REMEMBER FONDLY. Or something. (Or just go here)

lets post irion gaia II when Despain has no internet! :soap:

Anyway, you know I love it and am really looking forward to it- and will help you if/when/however I can. As for restoring the post, it'd probably only take a second to copy and paste everything from your GW post.

Teaser trailer review:

€¢Text appears a mite too slowly and pressing the button makes it vanish and advance instead of appearing all at once.
€¢Man walked through a mech on the city streets while the troops were advancing. Definitely needs better event coordination on that one.
€¢Love tryst scene had no text-- probably the font didn't autoinstall.
€¢Pontoon bridges of barrels? I can't imagine anyone balancing on those unless they're filled with sand or something.
€¢The song repeats. It can be viewed as tacky for the opening sequence to be longer than the song-- but this is due to my letting the text advance at its own pace. Nevertheless, it's possible you could edit another piece onto the end of the previous one; programs like Audacity are a great help for that sort of thing.

I'd give it 7 out of 10. You are definitely on the right track.

Thanks, Zoom! Allow me to respond point by point.

* I was not aware of this dissapearing text glitch. I'll look into it.
*Considering the amounts of events moving during that event (several dozen independent movements), I'm surprised there was only one error. Anyway, he's supposed to be walking under it, like between it's legs.
*Would it really have been that hard to FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS and INSTALL THE FONT? : ) Anyway, I'll look into getting an autoinstaller for the lazy. For now you should reinstall the font so you actually know what the hell's going on.
*We can assume they are full of sand. I'm glad to see you're analyzing it at this deep fo a level.
*If the song is repeating at all, it's because of lag. When the trailer plays at the proper speed, without any lag, the song ends EXACTLY where it's supposed to, at the scene with Carter and Slade in the snowy alley. I made sure of that. That's also the purpose of the slow text.

Thanks again for your feedback.

Well I watched the trailer, and aside from a few graphic inconsistencies and cheesy dialog(not all of it, but there were some parts) pretty badass. Cool little background tune to go with it. This being a sequel I've no doubt that the story will be solid. Good job.

Yeah, specially the part with the girl and guy talking. Watch it again and you will see whats wrong.

This is actually the best trailer I saw. The glitcthes aren't big of a deal.

Hey, Zeno, I remember you! No hard feelings, I hope.

@JStreet: Thanks. Glad you liked the Coheed and Cambria. You'll be hearing A LOT of them in the full game.

@Shark: I personally didn't find the dialogue cheesy at all, and being a writer consider dialogue my primary strongpoint, BUT, if you're concerned, none of those scenes are actually final for the game itself. Glad to know it's the best trailer you've seen.

Legion I think he means your dialog at that part is basically:
Dramatic Reinactment

Damn. The game looks great. Then again I don't think anyone would expect anything less considering the people who are making it. It really would/will be nice to finally get some more good games done in rmxp. (Not that there are alot right now to start with).

You have a point. It will be refined in the final version of the game. There is a lot of restatement, and I can see how it's problematic.

@Fenrir: Danke.

@Benos: Danke again. In the interrim, I must suggest you play the first two games. It will increase your enjoyment of IG2 significantly.

@Djrodrix: Well, glad to have someone else who noticed this. Replies have been FEW AND FAR BETWEEN lately and unfortunately most of the old ones were lost. Anyway, you won't have to wait all the way till 2k7. There's a demo coming in a few weeks.
