How is this a J-RPG? Was this made in Japan? I guess im basically asking if you are Japanese.

Quote:
Legionwood features a massive world filled with adventures and side quests, and is expected to contain over 20 hours of gameplay and five story driven chapters.
While it isn't revolutionary and contains gameplay that is for the most part bog standard RPG fare, Legionwood is designed to be that way; familiar and fun for RPG fans looking for a casual game to play.

ill be honest, ive never been a huge fan of your games, no offense, but after reading this I might download and play this. I dont mind so much that the game be ridden with basic gameplay or old school pacing and what not, but if it turns out to have a cliche dialogue or feel I might not enjoy it. Based on this, though I feel that youre being honest to the player so they know what to expect, and that should draw them in. I'll give this a whirl later this weekend!

A J-RPG can be made outside of Japan. It's a type of rpg games which due to their character development, target audience, linear narrative, and visual style are distinctable from other rpg's. Okay, 95% of JPRGs are offcourse made in Japan, but it's a type of rpg. It doesn't refer to it's place of origin, at least not in the first place.

Obviously I'm not Japanese... By "J-RPG style game" I'm referring to the fact that it plays like a basic japanese RPG (ei. more linear, less character customisation, character driven rather than story driven etc) and less like a western RPG like Fallout or Knights Of The Old Republic that are more open.

Thanks for giving the game a try even if you aren't a fan of my games, but I'd appreciate if you hold on just another week or two until the completed game is released, which contains a dialog rewrite and lots of edits.

I guess that's what I mean. Thus, why I said "J-RPG style game" in the intro. To clarify, this game is not made in Japan. It's not a J-RPG in that respect but is modelled on J-RPGs, rather than a western RPG style.

JRPG is no longer a geographical thing. It has evolved into a phrase that refers to the style of a game rather than the place it was made. Basically, it has become a genre. What you're saying is like saying that a western can't be made outside of America... or something equally silly.

Okay, well I'll keep on referring to the game as a "J-RPG" then! :)

It's not a JRPG, but its J-RPG esque, but I get what you mean nonetheless.

I actually like the look of this, and will probably try it within the next week or so. And then I'll tell you what I think about it. I'll also be studying your maps while I do it, need to learn how to map with VX, just a heads up.

EDIT: I tried it, and is it just me? Or is it a little odd that enemies hit me for 40-50 damage when I only have 120 Health. Makes me drop really fast when three enemies focus me.

@Eidolion: You're right, that is a bit hard. That's why I changed it in the new version ;)

The day you eagerly awaited probably didn't care about is here at last!

Legionwood is fully complete, and testing is finished! The full game with all four chapters can now be downloaded. Please enjoy! I spent three years of my life toiling to complete this game...

See the first post of the thread for the download link!

Hi everyone! Sadly, I've had to suspend the games downloads in order to upload a new one. My artist, Kken, has requested that I change her name in the credits and I felt I should honour her wish immediately. Thus, I've removed all previous downloads and am uploading a new one to RMN as we speak, which should be available sometime within the next 24 hours.

It will also include a small bug fix. If you've downloaded the current version, don't worry about downloading the new one, just simply go into the BGM folder, copy "Adventure Awaits.mid" and rename it to "BR - Adventure" to fix it yourself.

I thought I removed that puzzle!

Oh well, here's how to solve it;
Have the crystals swap places, then push them up/down from there onto the arrows that face the center statue.

And then examine the statue.

Ah, you're near the end of chapter three now. I'd say there's about five or six hours left. You're doing well!

Build 5 is now out!

If you were waiting for Build 5 to come out so you can start the game, or if you were turned off by the many ellipses and misc. bugs in Build 4, check out the OP for updated links now!

You need to have found the Mountaineer's Map and given it to the man in Greenvale. He'll give you a Rosetta Stone, which can translate the inscription. That will tell you how to open the door.

The Mountaineer's Map is either in Peregrin Canyon, Gaia's Cavern or the Arcanist's Tower, depending on the build you are playing.

A Legionwood fan today sent me a PM on RRR raising the notion of adding extra content to Legionwood in the form of an expansion pack. I use the term "expansion pack" because the additional content would probably be large in scope (perhaps a whole new chapter or more) and most of it would also probably be seperate from the main game, either optional, concurrent to it, or becoming available post game.

There's one thing I want to ask before I decide whether a Legionwood expansion pack is a good idea; what should it include? What aspects of the story do you want the expansion pack to explore? Where do you want to go? To the blocked of regions of Trevelle and Rhasphodus, or to an all new location entirely? Shall it be a prequel to the main game? Seperate from it? A sequel? Retelling the main story from another perspective?

Thoughts, anyone?

Also...

I've now set up a Facebook page to support all my projects. If you want to help introduce Legionwood to the outside world, you can access the page from http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Dark-Gaia-Studios/365139189465?v=wall

Thanks for your ongoing support!

Announcing the Tower of Trials expansion pack!

Hey there, Legionwood fans! Today, I'm happy to official announce the upcoming expansion pack, Legionwood: Tower of Trials, which is almost completely finished and will be released on December 15th, 2010.

Tower of Trials is an optional expansion pack for Legionwood: Tale of the Two Swords. It will not be distributed with the main game, and will instead be offered as a seperate download. It will not be possible to play Tower of Trials without having a copy of the main game handy; installing the expansion will simply add to your existing Legionwood game.

Tower of Trials adds extra post game content to Legionwood, in the form of an additional chapter that can be played after the ending scene of the main game. The storyline of the expansion pack takes place six months following Castoth's defeat and sees Lann and the group join together once more to investigate the mysterious titular Tower of Trials, a strange dimensional rift that has inexplicably appeared in the land of Rhasphodus. You can expect hours of gameplay as you explore new dungeons, learn new Techs, find new equipment, recruit a brand new summon and build your characters stronger than ever before!

The quest in Tower of Trials takes you beyond the world of Legionwood, into realms where only the fiercest monsters await you, including the land of Taltarus from Legionwood 2 and the deadly mansion from One Night 2: The Beyond. These are in addition to several more original locations, making for one huge dungeon crawl, a concept new to Legionwood.

Tower of Trials seeks to resolve the loose ends of Legionwood's plotline and expands upon characters that recieved little development. Fans of Zanthus in particular will be happy with what the new storyline offers.

So that's what awaits you in Legionwood: Tower of Trials, coming to infect your Legionwood game this December!
