I finished the game, that was fun !
I love the ending. Even though I saw it coming, it wasn't too obvious.
It's nice how you never do something a newt can't do.
The 3 riddles were a peace of cake compared to the rest of the game. :)

I agree with etheon on the part about being two places in the same time though. Even if it's deliberate, the game should at least tell the player that the NEWT goes through the door, and follow by the command that the player input, so they will be sure that it isn't a bug.

I was afraid that would clog up text space (as you do need to go back and forth quite a few times) but it's a good suggestion nonetheless.

This game is quite good, I want a sequel :)

Seeing that text games are not hard to program...

hey scripting from scratch is harder than it looks. even text-based took me weeks to polish, and it still has pretty messy code. but sure, a sequel... perhaps after a bit of time, when I'm feeling up to it :)

It was the general shape of the tail that mattered. I mean it was the closest thing a newt had to a human finger.
I did try to give a few hints (if you did "look NEWT" it would have mentioned your tail) but in the end figuring it out was your task.

I'm glad you guys are enjoying it so far.. even the ending. Personally I thought more people would be iffy about that, but I guess I was wrong.

No download required, you can play it directly on the first post after it loads!

I may post up a link, though, if anyone would rather play it offline.

So I wasn't planning on playing this game for as long as I did, but once I started I couldn't stop; it was hard to put down. The puzzles were well thought out and the whole concept was unique. It's been forever since I've played a text-based game, I forgot how much fun they can be. I'd definitely like to see another game like this somewhere down the road.

Thanks! I do have a small concept for a sequel, but it'll definitely be awhile before I can work on it (I'm forcing myself to work on my main project rather than distract myself on side projects). But I do encourage other makers to try their hand at text-based games, or even completely different programs like Flash!

That wouldn't be wise. Newts tend to find stones dry and tasteless. Plus they give you indigestion.

regi hurry up and make a sequel to this! You realize this game is pretty much the only reason I offered to help on Spinel's Core? It keeps floating to the top to taunt me. ;(

sorry but I already said I won't until I get more progress done with my main project ;o
I suppose that gives you more incentive to help out! The faster we speed through the faster I can zip out another tba.

bribes aside though, I'm legitimately curious, what do you like about this that's better than Spinel's Core?

It was clean, cute, easy to play, but not too easy, creative, and just lots of fun! Maybe it's because I naturally gravitate to these type of "use items on stuff to get places games". (Does this count as an adventure game? I'm not sure.)

Yeah I'd classify it as adventure. I could easily incorporate the item stuff into RPGs, though. Just another aspect of "puzzle-solving," no?
