just go to it's info page and evolve it (it'll tell you what it's about to evolve into just in case)

I also did the Trial Arena a bit aswel, it said it seems happier each time it did something so I figured that helped. If not then they've used poor wording.

yeah they get +1 happiness whenever you train or feed them, and +1 every hour that passes
