I use Palatino Linotype almost exclusively for EVERYTHING I do.

I am currently mostly loving Nyala. It doesn't work well at very small sizes, but at sort of medium sizes like the default RMXP font it looks really nice. I'm not sure where I got it from though, it appeared one day.

Nyala comes with Windows Vista/7 and is also installed with Office 2007.

Ah, thank you. I was worried it came with a graphics program or something that nobody else would have.

I'm not sure Strawberry, but if you scour places like dafont and blambot maybe you can find a bunch.

If you find one you like but you're not sure about, you could always post it here and get opinions since there's so many talented design-y people here. (Although if you're not sure if it's readable or not it probably won't be, hehe.)

Don't use Comic Sans. I don't personally think it's a bad font, but it only looks good if it fits your game. What's more, millions of people utterly hate the font and will refuse to play anything written in it. So even if you personally like that font, don't use it, unless you want people to not like your game. It's like cutting yourself in the fingers.

What you can use is a good readable font. Arial may be a bit too plain, but there are other fonts out there. Myriad Pro is one of my personal favorites. Try to avoid serif fonts unless necessary. You can ofcourse use an original font in your game with a special theme, but remember the most important thing about a font is that it's clearly readable, not that it looks fancy.

I've been using this font for my game (trying to get a pixel look going).

http://www.dafont.com/04b-03.font

I've tried a lot, and while this one works, it looks kind of strange, I guess. Is there a better choice out there?

Or would this one be fine?

As fonts go it is very nice and readable at low sizes. I assume that's how it's being used?

I want it be readable at small sizes, yes. I'm glad it's nice and readable, though. :3

Not too plain, right? I like it, but I might change it.

And this font for my title:

I love the detail of this font!

Nah that's a very nice font. It's readable but still slightly different to the usual arial/verdana/tahoma.

This looks really neat. How much dialogue or text in general is in your game? I love to look at it but I think if I had to read it too much at small sizes my eyes would start sliding off the text.

Hmmm... It's going to be used for the menu and all dialogue, so maybe a lot. Do you have another suggestion, I'd love to hear. I want dialogue that looks pixelated, but mayhaps easy on the eyes. ;_;

you know what don't feel bad because i just looked at the top and noticed that there were uppercase AND lowercase, i thought it was all uppercase for some reason, also i am dumb

It should be fine in that case though, don't let me get you paranoid because of my misunderstanding of the font. ;o I'm not great at this stuff but nobody raised any objections.

I thought Myriad Pro was a font that came with Photoshop, in which case you may not be able to expect it to exist on systems that play the game, and I'm sure you can't redistribute it.

Myriad Pro comes with everything adobe, and is the standard font in illustrator, also, no, you can not redistribute it.
If you were to buy your own license for it.. well.. http://www.fonts.com/findfonts/detail.h ... tid=215904
But then you still are unable to redistribute it.

In other words, would I have to use a different font? Because I don't want to get into any trouble if I'm not allowed to redistribute the myriad pro font.

Yes, you'd have to use a font which' license allows you to redistribute it specifically.
Either that or use a font that is cross-os-compatible: http://www.ampsoft.net/webdesign-l/WindowsMacFonts.html

I think that'd be fine in small quantities, but it looks like it'd hurt the eyes in blocks.

the worst part if it's probably the most legible that i've wrangled up too

font mentioned above

pretty, but it's a little cutesy and curly for my taste, really unappealing at sizes below 18

really nice to look at but i can't imagine it's very good in large doses at all

i figured with no large blocks of text i could go for something fancier, but it might just look gimmicky and in the end, unpleasant

Yeah, those are cool, but I can't imagine they'd look good in blocks except maybe the first one.
