I like the first tree, it has really intricate looking details to it. I'm not really sure what's up with the background though, I guess you were going for a contrast? I think by itself or maybe on a gradient it would look better.

Cool stuff though, I'll check in once in a while

Oh, Bacon, that is cool. Maybe have the mouth go all the way across? The moon in Majora's Mask is awesome. I love that game.

I really dig the concept! I think you could refine the profile more, though.

Look at this lady's head:
Image
See how her nose is a triangle, not a bump? Also look at the curvature of the lips and chin and the shape of the eye.

Thanks peri. Im definitely going to mess around with the shape of the profile. I think that if worse comes to worse I might restart this. Looking back at it now when it isn't super late I can see a bunch of errors and stuff that make me ugh.

When I started this I wasnt going to do the hair like that at all it was just me practicing and doodling and trying different things. Like I said above, I am going to probably just redo the face and see if I can make it refined.

Thanks again.

What I find rather interesting in your work is that you seem to incorporate hands and hand-like shapes into everything.

I see arms & hands and fingers in all of your pieces ... Even the ones without any of those things.

I wonder what psychological implications are behind that :)

I'm really digging these, though. This is the kind of stuff art schools like to see: abstract characteristics and experimentation with color and line movement.

thanks miss ven ma'am
yeah i like hands and fingers and eyes for some reason so i just draw them all the time
like ive drawn the same type of eyes since i was like 7 or something

im definitely am trying to explore and just play around and stuff. Drawing is something ive always done since forever ago. One thing I never drew though were people i actually started to look into the correct proportions and stuff last year. I never drew anime or anything but instead opted with little dinky stick figure like people and added filling and stuff. I guess maybe that is why i like to elongate legs and arms and stuff but i dont know.

Anyways, thanks miss ven. I appreciate the comments.

I still think you should really look into taking an art class. You obviously really enjoy mucking around with colours and paints, and although there's nothing wrong with what you're doing right now, you could really benefit from learning some technique and working with tangible material. I'm of the opinion that it's better to learn painting in real life first before attempting digital painting (but I'm sure many people disagree)

I don't know how far you plan on taking your artstuffs but you have the capability to make some really neat work! If you have the time and really want to improve, look into taking some introductory art classes, I'm sure there are plenty of workshops around your area.

I am far from being a reliable guide or anything like that! It's something I tell everyone who likes art. As far as I know, you've never taken any formal classes, and it's easy for someone to see you have potential. I think you could do really well with guidance and a teacher.

yours truly,
mr. dadevster sir ma'am mister sir madam miss sir

im looking into some basic art classes actually. You are absolutely right, I lack some technique and I really think that i do need to practice in real life and stuff. My "studies" have been basic people watching and looking at faces and stuff and trying to break them down into shapes. x:

So yeah, Im going to see how much it costs and maybe take a class or two. Thanks sir dev sir.

both are 100% entirely different areas of art and require almost entirely different skills & concepts

i've seen people belt out fantastic, amazing digital work, and then suck and die with traditional media. and vice versa.

with traditional media, you have to develop a tactile technique: literally FEELING the medium in your hands and gauging direction/weight/length of stroke by the tactile sensations being felt while drawing/painting/arting. composition & texture are extremely key elements. you can not see what is under or behind your pen/brush/etc., so you must develop a type of forethought and instant assumption as you guide your strokes.

with digital media (excluding those write-on monitors etc.), you can always see everything on your canvas at all times -- under the "brush", behind it, and 3 "feet" to the left of it. the problem is that you have to develop the ability to contextualize the size/span ratio between your digital canvas and the tablet you are not looking at. similar to guiding a marionette. instead of working in texture, you work in positive and negative light play, to "fake it". your brush is not tactile, so you must gauge your strokes via the sensation of strength/stability in your hand (to avoid shaking or jittering).

they both have TOTALLY different "tricks" and techniques and tools, as well.

2 totally 100% different things and it really doesn't matter what order you learn them in.

even if Van Gogh woke his happy ass up right now and picked up an Intuos4 to re-create Starry Night in Photoshop, he would be met with a horrific mess of dark blobs and uncontrolled jitters, and would have to teach himself art all over again.

Oh, I thought I posted about this already, but I agree with Ven. Additionally, for color use specifically, I think digital art is easier than traditional art since it's much easier to change, giving you more freedom to try different things. I know my understanding of color increased tremendously from doing pixel art in large part because I was able to experiment so much.

how come your e-drawing is super stylized and your pencil drawings aren't?
(i know, it's because of ctrl-z)

drawing a lot of hesitant lines doesn't ever get you anywhere besides fuzzy drawings.
they way i learned to make every line count is by drawing with ink instead of pencil, you can't erase ink, so every line has to be good. (or fixable)

I bought a sketchbook and some fineliners, and tried to practice with that (maybe it'll help you too)

well those pencil drawings are from over a year ago i dont think ive posted a pencil drawing in the last 6 months

but yeah, thats something ive been doing. I know i cant draw on the computer all the time so I usually draw with just a pen/pencil and paper. If I get a scanner Ill see if i can post some up.

And ive been working on trying to make less hesitant lines and im still not very good at it but I think im improving. Im going to practice using the pen technique more though. I gotta get my lines down better so I dont control_delete ever again. o;

Thanks Tomas.
