I think it would be pretty cool if the mods would stop freaking out over posts that are a bit spammy, because they should be happy that people are actually posting

Little notes edited into posts aren't serious or anything, and aren't really freaking out. If it was warns and bans I'd agree but that edit whoever did it was more just a little hint to say "posting one image posts isn't really how gen discussion works".

:)

That said I do agree that everyone is scared of gen discussion at the moment because any post that might fit in there (news posts, debates, etc) are always frowned upon because "the members can't handle them" which is pretty silly. Gen discussion needs a lot of work.

But I think we should still at least have three words in a post, just so we have some structure and aren't just a forum-wide rec room.

lol dude even neogaf gets posts like that and they are more "mature", there should always be room for some fun or else the forum is just lame
and bacon especially has a nasty habit of editing and deleting every fucking thing which doesn't strictly follow the rules

It's not too harsh a rule to have, and that's why the rec room's there. Just try and keep tiny posts to a minimum, that's all.

I did lol at your link post though and idk that could have been expressed any other way.

I dunno, maybe general discussion needs to have it's rules and conduct looked at. It's always been a dead board. It would be nice to get people out of the rec room and into gen discussion for their topical posts.

I don't agree with deleting posts, but editing notes in isn't a bad thing. It's just a hint that your post was spammy. We have to keep some level of decent posting, and our standards aren't really that high.

we made the rec room to direct all spam and other garbage so that other boards wouldn't get so full of it. you made a lame post, a moderator told you it was spammy. that's how it works. it's not anybody being strict, it's you being a spammy poster.

this is a really mean-spirited thing to say. we don't need spam where it shouldn't be.

Something I'd like to comment on is our habit of locking threads that don't have enough information. While I know it is important in projects and scripts, I don't think this rule need apply to video games, or other entertainment, or general discussion.

For example, someone dies, and someone posts a thread saying "x died." Before we would lock the topic or at least post saying "dude, give us more information, who is x? Some people don't even know who x is. What did they do? Please put more info in it." - if people are interested in learning more about x, then they can start a convo in the thread, that's how they work. That's why we don't get many topics, because it takes so much effort to actually start one, when "let's talk about blackadder" is a perfectly adequate topic starter. Otherwise, these conversations just end up in Post What's On Your Mind, which is a bit sad.

Twirly, if you tell me to "chill out" one more time, Im going to ban you again. This is really silly. The rules are not that hard to follow, dont spam in any other board but the recroom.

No i dont. I dont understand how I am not really lax about the rules. The rules are simple really, dont spam and dont be a dick.

Twirly, while the whole ban threat may be an overreaction, your attitude is seriously terrible. You are whining because i legitimately verbally warned you. The general discussion board is supposed to be the antithesis of the recroom and posts are supposed to be at least decently formed and thought-out and its your problem if you cant follow even that.

If you aren't whining then drop it. It was a legitimate note and that's all it was, a note. It's not like it was even a WARN.

considering you're the only person that has a problem with how bacon moderates, i think the problem is that you're being kind of a dick. if you don't like how we work around here then nobody's forcing you to stay!

No one replied because no one cares. My kids used to use the "Billy's mom let's him do it" argument before they "Grew Up". It never worked.

Keep the spam where it belongs, and there won't be a problem.
