Remake of a picture. XD I didn't like the old one, so I thought to re-draw it. I like Merri and Noko a lot, so except lots of pictures of them - maybe it be separately or together. Hehe. The sword she is holding belongs to Noko. ^^ He won't let anyone hold it, but she can get away with it.
Image

Another picture of Merri - this time holding onto Noko's prized pendant, as if something horrible has happened to him.

I can't really tell the difference with the first one..

The 2nd one is really nice though, but the ears seem a bit too high (and a bit short) if you compare it to the other one... The hand is very notably nice and detailed... Which is extremely hard for me...

These two were some I did in free time at school, I had traced some proportioning out of some animes I was watching and figured out a basic body structure and shapes as a standard for me, so it kinda helped a lot.

Image
Notably, for this, her left hand is off, and goes into her knee...

Image
For this one, her eyebrows are kinda off xDD, and the legs are kinda off in proportioning, meaning that her thigh is too short...

Here's a little splurge of character ideas for The Manifest Destiny, a 'verse I started developing maybe a month or two back, but only really got to work on with the start of NaGaDevMo. I figured I'd go for a more cartoony aesthetic since the game isn't really that grimdark and gritty.

Trying some monochrome inking techniques with some concept art for a game character.

Here's the initial sketch.

I had to re-size the images a little because they where too big

By the way cool pic Makasu. I have a really cheap scanner so mine always look gritty. You can just use Mediafire, they don't take down or re-size your images if you get a free account.
The UI's a little different these days though.

So is there some reason why there aren't any new post? Because I haven't checked the forum for a long time and I still see my post from back then on this page...

Anyways, I've been drawing and have been trying to draw more...

I for some reason can't ink it without it looking weird.. any idea on why?

yeah the thread's not as active as it once was :(

anyway that looks p nice, zchin!

zchin wrote:

well the charm of the piece, IMO anyway, stems from the messiness & thickness of the linework.

when you ink a thing, you lose some of that ... organic quality, that pencil gives off. You can't shade it the same way, and you can't make subtle lines with ink. Every line with inking is going to be SOLID BLACK, but with pencil, you have anything from SUPER LIGHT GREY ALMOST WHITE to GREY to PRETTY DARK GREY, and everything inbetween ...
the change of mediums often will make a piece have a TOTALLY different feel.

if you're intent on definitely inking a piece of work that you've pencilled, you'll have to draw in pencil with that consideration in mind. You'll have to try to maintain thin, clean lines, and avoid smudging or feinting or lightly shading. B/c your pen just will not be capable of any of that :)

It is sad this thread isn't as active anymore. :(

Here is a drawing I drew a week or so ago - just haven't taken a picture of it. XD

It is Aelina's younger sister, Reina (from Ghost Shards). ^^

This is exactly the reason anything I try to ink turns into trash. I do all of my doodles with a soft pencil because I love the look of smudged graphite and rough sketches on paper. When I open up Photoshop to try and replicate that feeling in ink, it ends up losing any sense of movement and action and becomes static and boring.

This is why I post only scans. Because that's as good as it gets, folks.

Thanks Venetia for saying that... it makes a lot of sense I don't know how I couldn't have figured it out lol

I really like the first one, but it looks like her face is concentrating too hard, because the eyebrows are arched a bit, or the eyes and the eyebrows are at a weird angle... The last one made me read the description, and I can see a ton of improvement between the two, seeing as your probably a few years older than 13.

copied from my thread My thread (thread whoring)

so uh
massive amount of sketches. At least in size :F

one at the top are oldest, ones at the bot are newest. The first six are messing around, there's some anatomy study after that (proper or not), weird stuff, *lots* of hand practice, and some elegance later on as I mess around.

warning: 2 or 3 nsfw images, and there's a LOT of large images in this spoiler (~25 iirc)

Hey, I totally recognize some of those poses. Are you using the Pixelovely figure-drawing reference pose circulation thing? I love that thing.

These are about a week old, but with midterms I don't have anything newer to show. Weird-lookin self-portrait and doodles featuring the consummate Bro Crow.

@makusu: there's a contrast between the heart in the background and the pic, namely in the fact that the heart is noticeably more computer generated (very sharp edges, no outlines, I can sorta see the pixellation at its edges) when compared to the picture (which has rather soft(?) lines and makes it seem more organic in contrast). I can note that, but whether that's good or not I can't really say. Other than that note, It's a very good image.

@action: in the right pic, the man's arm/hand is noticeable unproportioned - the wrist is sorta nonexistent (I can see it, but in an overall image it's rather not there), with the cuff of the shirt/sleeve making the hand/arm/wrist area blend together. The arm/shoulder area is a little bit unnatural, but it's not a big deal, i think.
It took me looking at it for a good 30 seconds, but once I realized the moneybag was there, I loled.
The image of batman in his suit really is unproportioned at several points (leg size, head) while the way you've drawn his arms and the cape makes it look like he has wings, not a cape. Altogether it looks like a bat, a literal bat. Which can sorta be taken in a comedic viewpoint tbh, so there aren't that many *actual* issues in that.

@strawberry: his body still seems a little bit more feminine, but that's only if I nitpick. It's pretty fine otherwise (although I think you have a bit too much curvature in there). When I look at his right arm/should/body junction, and imagine it turning in 3d, it doesn't look particularly perfect. I like the small amount of muscle lines on his left arm, and although I was about to ask if his triceps (or was it bicep?) part of the arm (between shoulder and elbow) was a bit short, as I imagine his full body it didn't look too bad. Hmm.
Nice hair. I think the ear is located a bit too low. The eyes don't look finished. A small part of his hair at the temple/bangs area seem to reveal too much skin/scalp that high up the head. I think.
The wings are off, and those two... back muscle/bone lines? (can't think of the right word) may be located a bit low. Luckily it's not really an important issue since they're really not noticeable.

I DID IT A CONSTRUCTIVE POST

....And so it would happen that I would miss mawk.
Anywyas, yeah, using pixel lovely, although not too much recently/last week or so. Think I'll get back on sometime

So umm

I'm not sure if that guy (bro crow?) is wearing a short sleaved shirt or not, seeing as the rest of his arm is white colored. Prolly cause you just never finished shading it in, but whatever.
Besides that there's not much particularly wrong that I can saw. I think a small part of *his* left jaw area is a bit too protruded, giving his head a sort of... roundish? squarish? look. doesn't fit badly with the so-so largish neck. Nice pic, the sketchiness gives it a very good organic look, which probably hides a small bit of flaws.

Mawk: I don't really know what to say but I really like the style for the portrait of yourself, although I can't really think of any way to get those sketchy lines around it...

Action: Your drawing looks really nice and I've seen major improvement from the last time I've viewed your work. Especially that guy, but I notice that the hand happens to be obscured ...

Tried out pixelovely figure drawing thing and came out with this...

Image

The head position looks a bit funny, and the angle of the turned head also is at that weird angle... So after I finished the whole body frame I found out that the proportioning wasn't going to fit and I had to cut off the feet, which I should really draw more... But whatever... This is a drawing that I've used to pick up on how I used to draw since I haven't really drawn for a while...
