I just completed that beginner's guide and Construct 2 is nothing short but amazing. The eventing system is as easy as RMXP and the AJAX features and all are well known stuff for myself and most other web developers. And considering you can port your games to mobile devices makes it a dream to work with. I'll start thinking about my game right now!

All of the tutorial projects run smoothly, but once I make my own platformer with like 2 objects, it crashes, or lags rediculously... so far not liking the program.. hopefully it'll get better

Maybe you are not putting your events together well or your browser doesn't support html5 because everything i tested so far (including platforming) works like a charm.

Yeah, me too. Although I'm not convinced about Construct 2, because it means I have to start a new learning trail. How long did it take you, Gravija?

Hey action you may want to check this out: http://www.scirra.com/forum/platformer- ... 45907.html

And as far as memory issues it could be a bunch of things: Your room could be way too big, your browser may have too many tabs/been idling way too long, or there is something wonky with your code like a loop that is doing too many operations at once every microsecond.

The developers recommend using chrome for optimal performance with html5. I've been using firefox and really have seen no issues except when I leave the browser open too long. Long as in like I leave my computer on for hours to do stuff and come back to it.

There's a beginners guide to make an asteroid-like game in which you learn the basics. It took me an hour: http://www.scirra.com/tutorials/37/begi ... onstruct-2

I'm now following a tutorial for a platform game: http://www.scirra.com/tutorials/243/bui ... ners-guide

If you're into programming like I am, then learning a new IDE/language is like a delicacy to you.

Well, the thing is, I'm kind of enthusiastic about my very recent project, Brain Zap. I'm afraid if I drop it to start something new, I'll kind of loose impulse and creativity.

It seems a little unfair that we have to learn a completely new engine and we'll be competing against people on the official forums that have much more experience with it.

Prolly no more unfair than being new to rm and wanting to enter an rm contest, but have to go against Sailerius. I don't see why that should be not a reason to try. Plus the engine really isn't that hard to pick up. It reminds me of MMF with it's simplified point and click eventing interface. I just spent an hour on the platforming tutorial and found the system to be pretty intuitive.

Is there a thread or message or something on Scirra's site/forum about this contest?

I think they make a lot of contests. At least that's the impression I got from YouTube.

You can team up with people, of course if you are a runner up you will have to figure out who gets the license. Obviously you'd be splitting up the prize gift certificates among yourselves if you get top billing. Figure that out ahead of time so we aren't left holding your prize while you guys argue it out.

Anyway we may be publishing the judging criteria soon so you guys know how we will evaluate your products.

Good, that's what i wanted to know as well. Programming and static graphics won't be a problem to make myself, but sprites (well, anything that goes beyond frankenspriting and recoloring) and music are not my cup of tea.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, I though the top 12 prizes were specific to the HBG forum..?

It will be somewhat bad when money donated by HBGames users will go to some guys from other forum. :x

BTW, WHO will be judging? HBG staff? Construct forum staff? Users?

Well, I can only guess that "the Outside interest" the ones who donated 1/2 of the prize Pool... (around 700 or something like that) WAS the people from the Constuct2 Forums.

So it kinda varies if people HERE compete...

(If no one HERE competes) - Kinda sucks we gave them money...

(If no one THERE competes) - Kinda sucks they gave us money...

So if you want a chance at the money... compete...

on a side note - a friend (with a better computer then mine)
has agreed to let me borrow his computer so I can compete.

Im playing around with it now...

This is a HBGames contest. Winners will need to be a HBGames member.

The extra prizes were from Scirra who matched any copies of Construct 2 we bought as prizes.

This was pretty awesome until I saw the hoops you had to go through to allow someone else to play your game. Don't exactly have a server or website sitting around....

It's being announced on the Scirra forum later than here, so you guys have about a week's head start.

We're definitely going to be taking the factors of your inexperience with the program into consideration when judging.

Remember, we're the staff of THIS site -- if anything, the newcomers from the Scirra forum should feel nervous about our playing favorites :P

(Not that I'm saying we WILL play favorites, but like I said, if someone puts tons of effort into their project, that will count for a lot.)

If someone comes over from the Scirra forums and registers an account here, they are most certainly eligible to win. But like I said, they will need to make a membership here and promote their entry here.

And before a bunch of people bow out because of some stupid reason ... There are TWELVE ways to win here, guys. You run a VERY good chance of being a winner.

(Also, consider this: Why would an experienced C2 veteran enter a contest to win a copy of C2? Stop being so pessimistic.)

The pessimism lurking in this thread is a real downer. If you're actually into game development and want to do something noteworthy in this community, you'll take part in this contest whether you expect to win a fantastic prize or not. If neither of these things are true for you, then there's no point in you even posting here, is there?

tl;dr Tuna hates whiners.
