RPG Maker XP version 1.04 is out

I have just installed the trial and new rtp on my pc. No file was changed in the RTP, including the Data/ folder. All files are the same, they even are dated from 2007. Even the help file hasn't been updated.

The only new thing in the RTP is that there are new RGSS104E.dll and RGSS104J.dll, but guess what, they are the same. No encryption changed, nothing new in F1 menu, so rmxp 1.04 games are still vulnerable to all decrypters and script injectors out there. Maybe there is some kind of change, but I don't know.

But, what have changed? Only the RMXP activator. It now uses other keys, and ask for email, name and last name, presumably checking on the database all that data before activation. (so your old rmxp/vx keygens won't work)

If you have RMXP already installed, don't bother upgrading. Specially as I don't even know if you are able to ask for a new key from enterbrain for the new version, or you have to buy it again.

Ahh, and there is also a new official website: http://www.rpgmakerweb.com/

And, if you want the new dlls (with their unpacked versions), here you have: RGSS104dll.rar

Finaly, quote from CNET:
Quote:
What's new in this version:
Version 1.04 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.

Aww, I was expecting something good, not more of the same

Oh well, no upgrading for me, I'm happy with what I have.

Yeah, they only changed the activator so less people can crack it, they could at least fix the typos in the editor, like the description of events mode in status bar (A typo that is even in RMVX).

The website lists RMXP as the latest edition. Perhaps that will draw newbies away from VX!

To hell Enterbrain. They do not even add anything new in the maker, in addition, they showed us a new system of protection, which is still hacked a couple of months. Nothing that I would like to see in the maker. As usual, the sheer frustration and despair.

Incidentally, some users have complained that RGSS104E*dll and RGSS104J*dll is not compatible with older versions of RPG Maker. What further proof that politics Enterbrain exacerbates its impact on fans.

If they didn't even bother removing the "Gralssland" typo and only added a desperate attempt to get people to pay $60 for it, this must be the most worthless update in world history...

Damn! When I read this topic's title, I was all like "Wow, an update for RMXP!" but now I can't help but hate Enterbrain even more than I did before.

enterbrain not caring about its product isn't really anything knew. the programs themselves are only usable due to the efforts of the end users.

it's heartwarming to see them finally figure out how easy it is to steal their product, though. it took a couple releases, but the glacier finally crushed that penny it'd been eyeing.

Actually, CNET is advertising it at $30 bucks now. Least they're giving SOMEONE a break... Granted, it took them long enough to release their value pack to us. The value pack for Japan showed up in February 2009 (4,800 Yen).

Insofar as the RTP, if you have RMXP... I'm with Vgvgf. Don't bother. But if you don't... now's your chance.

However, I am curious what is different in the .dll files. Perhaps they are upgraded for better compatibility with Windows7?

W7? Maybe. But no guarantee, because byte comparison with the original RGSS102E(J)*dll not found ANYTHING new.

Interesting fact. Has anyone tested the original Game Battle in the trial version? Here are some newcomers say that it does not work correctly. I tested both RGSS104*dll, but there is clean.

Unfortunately the changelog is a mystery

Quote from CNET.

Although as vgvgvf has found the only changes seem to be with the buying system.

I believe I know the answer.

I learned a week ago that Enterbrain passed the English version of RPG Maker Series to a new company for distribution. The new company decided not to use Protexis as the DRM/Order Processor. So, they had to roll a new DRM for the game. That's your change, nothing else. Mystery solved. :)

DRM = digital rights management. this is the thing that asks you for a serial number to unlock RPG Maker.

Out of curiosity, does 1.04 recognize your keys from prior versions if you do end up upgrading (or, in a more likely case, get stuck reinstalling for some reason).

Since its no longer through protexis, would this mean you no longer get your key locked after 3 installations?

No. It not recognize old keys.

The new system of protection does not use keys from the old versions. Consequence, the need to buy a new one...

P.S. We had already no point to it... Because we're Russian. MWHA-HA-HA.

So I just downloaded and installed version 1.04 from Download.com, and it activated just like 1.02a and the Help -> About dialog still says 1.02a. Think Download.com goofed or has anyone else tried it and got the same?

Ah good though if we were to upgrade it since i'm sure all of us paid for 1.02 i'd be quite disapointed that we have to buy a new activation code considering paying $60 bucks for XP activation code, and VX activation code as well would suck. But at least the price has dropped.

Though i am curious i swore usually the value features of the Tsukuru games have more fetures that the non value version.

I personally paid for 1.02. I've had to pirate it several times though because it stopped letting me transfer it to new PCs, of which I've done 5 times since I bought the software! (Since I don't use the other PCs I see no problem with that).

Well true unless you talking about the previous PC rpg makers like 2000, and 2003. Wasn't their value versions had improved/fixes/ new features. then their non value counterparts?

There was also a RPG Maker XP Value! that came out in japanese only.

Nothing new, only reduced price. Well, nothing new for the previous 1.03 RMXP version that was in japanese only too, that seems to include some Vista/Win7 compatibility patch, and cleartype font. Maybe they included that too in english 1.04?

Lol, cnet (Download.com) download is just 1.02a, they haven't updated it, and seems they only updated the version in the web. If you want to download 1.04 (I don't know why someone would want to if they already have 1.02...) go to the official website.

@vgvgf I don't want 1.04, I was just curious as to why I got 1.02a when it said I was downloading 1.04. Guess cnet goofed, haha. I was just installing RMXP because I am reinstalling all my stuff after reinstalling my OS.

@mouse: If you talk to protexis (the people who handle the licnesing for 1.02a) then they will give you a new serial. You just have to tell them like the email you bought it with and your serial number and they will give you a new one. I'm not sure if they will still do it for 1.02a though.

DRM sucks, it was one reason why I switched to Linux. Enterbrain can put that activator to their ass. I really hope that someday there will be an open source alternative of RMXP.

About DRM: New RM activator did not last a few months. It hacked faster than expected.

About alternative: Maybe... It's a pity that the EGM not free, otherwise everything would be just wonderful.

When I first saw this, I was expecting some 'enhancing' on RMXP,
such as changing rendering engines...(RMXP Uses GDI+, Which is slow as fuckballs)
or update ruby libs.(RGSS uses really, old version of Ruby. Which is also pretty slower than latest one)

But now I think we better don't expect somthing from Enterbrain.

It seems they didn't have any freakin' bit of nerve on enhancing previous products.
and RMXP is one of that case.

And they probably never care about decryption.
To make matters worse, they didn't know anything about it.

(I think that's because decryption tool is not official, and also not really known in Japan.
I never saw or heard of japanese RMXP/VX users using decrypter, and Enterbrain is japanese company.
So That means enterbrain probably don't even know decryptor is released.)

** Anyway, I'm tring RGSS104J.dll.................for last hope, I guess.
Thanks for dlls, vgvgf.
